The Connect Amazon call, promoted by the Amazon Foundation for Support of Studies and Research of Pará (Fapespa) in collaboration with the University of Birmingham (UoB), received a complementary edition last Monday (28). The agreement aims to establish lasting collaborations in key areas such as climate change, deforestation, bioeconomy, nature-based solutions, and land conflicts. The Engage Amazon 2025 is a multidisciplinary program that aims to generate scientific results applicable to the Amazon context while strengthening the presence of Pará's academic production on the global stage.

Public Call No. 011/2025 is part of the Engage Amazon 2025 Program, which aims to promote scientific research projects aligned with the public policies of Science, Technology, and Innovation of the Government of Pará, focusing on promoting the internationalization of research groups and institutions from Pará.

“It is very important to continue this extremely successful partnership. Another opportunity for the internationalization of our ICTs,” evaluates the president of Fapespa, Marcel Botelho.

With a state investment of over R$ 248 thousand, the new call opens opportunities for more effective researchers linked to Scientific, Technological, and Innovation Institutions (ICTs) located in the State of Pará to submit their projects with proposals for developing science, technology, and innovation actions with researchers linked to the University of Birmingham.

“The complementary call was launched so that more projects can be selected, within the scope of international cooperation and within the limits of financial resources provided for the development of collaborative research, and that new international partnerships are strengthened in the State of Pará,” explains Deyvison Medrado, scientific director of Fapespa.

International cooperation - The Connect Amazon call is one of the actions provided for in the International Cooperation Agreement for Research, Development, and Innovation (PD&I) No. 001/2025, signed between the Government of Pará, Fapespa, and the University of Birmingham.

The partnership with the University of Birmingham is one of the efforts of Fapespa and the State Government to expand the global reach of Pará's state system of science, technology, and innovation, reinforcing its role in developing solutions to Amazonian challenges. “The Connect Amazon is an opportunity for researchers from Pará to establish and strengthen connections and partnerships, so that research groups become more robust in terms of internationalization,” says Medrado.

Schedule – Professors and researchers interested in submitting their projects can register until August 22, through this link: Complementary Call No. 011/2025 – Connect Amazon. The announcement of the final result of the call is scheduled for September 25, and there may be changes depending on the progress of the technical analysis.
