The Oriximiná Menino Jesus Regional Hospital (HRMJ) held an educational lecture on hypertension aimed at outpatient attendees this Tuesday (5). The event was organized by the unit's pharmacists in celebration of National Pharmacy Day, observed on August 5, a date that recognizes the importance of the pharmaceutical profession in the healthcare system.

National Pharmacy Day was established to celebrate the profession and the importance of pharmacists in public health. It is a moment to acknowledge the fundamental role of pharmacists in ensuring the rational use of medications, providing health guidance, and preventing diseases.

During the lecture, pharmacist Andria Lopes discussed guidelines on the diagnosis, treatment, and control of hypertension, as well as highlighting the importance of the correct use of medications and the risks of self-medication.

“The goal was to alert the population about the care needed for hypertension and reinforce the role of pharmacists in monitoring and guiding patients about their pharmacotherapy. We also talked about the importance of healthy eating, physical exercise, and lifestyle changes,” explained the professional.

Another highlighted point was the proper disposal of expired or unused medications, a practice that is still little known by the population. Patient Lucinda Picanço Castro, 59, a resident of the municipality of Óbidos, positively evaluated the action: “I found the lecture very good. It is a subject I was not aware of, especially regarding the disposal of medicines. From now on, I will take better care of myself,” she stated.

The initiative reinforces HRMJ's commitment to health promotion and health education, bringing professionals closer to the community and strengthening actions to prevent chronic diseases.
