Prison units in Marituba receive videoconference rooms for hearings and virtual services
The delivery of the spaces integrates a partnership between the State Government, TJPA, and the Federal Government to ensure speed, security, and dignity in the Pará penitentiary system

The three Custody and Reintegration Units (UCR I, II, and III) of the Marituba Penitentiary Complex now have videoconference rooms for conducting hearings and virtual services. This initiative is part of a technical cooperation agreement between the Court of Justice of the State of Pará (TJPA), the State Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration (Seap), and the National Secretariat of Penal Policies (Senappen), within the scope of the Fair Penalty Plan.

The installation of the rooms strengthens the modernization of the state penitentiary system, with direct impacts on security, resource savings, and respect for the rights of people deprived of liberty (PPLs), in addition to ensuring greater efficiency in the procedural flow.

Institutional cooperation and procedural efficiency
During the delivery ceremony, the auxiliary judge of the presidency of TJPA, Charles Menezes Barros, representing the president of the Court, Judge Roberto Gonçalves de Moura, highlighted the relevance of the integration between the powers.
“This project is an example that the Judiciary, Seap, and the Federal Government are together to solve problems that, although they seem small, have a great impact. We want our hearings to be conducted more effectively and for the number of provisional prisoners to decrease more and more,” said the magistrate.
According to the deputy secretary of Operational Management of Seap, Ringo Alex Rayol Frias, representing the head of the department, Marco Antônio Sirotheau Côrrea Rodrigues, the initiative brings significant gains to the routine of the prison units.
“This will optimize our workforce, improve the logistics of movement, and allow better performance of daily activities in the units. It also represents speed in processes, savings, and more security for the prison officers. The goal is to advance and reach all 54 units of Seap,” explained the manager.
Strengthening the structure and legal assistance
The director of UCR Marituba III, Colonel PM Holanda, emphasized that the new structure eliminates previous improvisations, such as the use of cell phones or tablets for conducting hearings.
“Now, we have an organized structure that avoids external escorts and strengthens internal security, keeping the workforce within the unit,” he highlighted.
Lucas Bellard, from the Criminal Execution Directorate (DEC) of Seap, also reinforced the benefits for the progress of processes and legal assistance.

“The videoconference rooms streamline the flow of hearings, meet the deadlines of Justice, and also assist in virtual parlors for lawyers. This contributes to the fulfillment of judicial diligences with more agility and security,” he explained.
Expansion of technology in the prison system
In addition to the Marituba Complex, the Provisional Custody Center of Cremação and the UCR of Icoaraci in Belém already have videoconference rooms. The Virtual Parlors, which allow private interviews between PPLs and lawyers, have already been installed in the units of Belém, Marabá, Barcarena, and Altamira.
In this first phase of the cooperation agreement, 63 installations of complete videoconference kits are planned for prison units in the State.
