The Linear Park is entering the final phase, to offer the population another legacy of COP

Block 5 of the New Doca can now be seen up close by the population of Belém. The Government of Pará has removed the barriers on the stretch of Avenida Visconde de Souza Franco between the streets Cônego Jerônimo Pimentel/Manoel Barata and Bernal do Couto/Ó de Almeida. The area is also receiving asphalt paving.

The investment is part of a set of structural works considered a legacy of the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which will be held in the capital of Pará next November.

“We have already reached 93% completion of the services at New Doca. Now it is time for the population to observe what is being done in Block 5, which comprises more than half of the blocks of the canal. We are intensifying the services and showing the results in practice to those passing by Avenida Visconde de Souza Franco. The Linear Park is already a reality and will soon be ready to welcome residents of our capital and visitors who will be here for COP30,” commented Ruy Cabral, Secretary of Public Works of the State.

Sanitation and infrastructure - Block 5 of the New Doca features a bike lane, a kiosk with a contemplation area, and a gathering space with benches. The planting of 12 trees in the area is also planned, which will be part of the landscaping of the Linear Park. A total of 180 trees will be planted along the eight blocks. The water purification strategy will include a wastewater treatment system using wetlands, the so-called "filter gardens," which use plants to filter impurities from the canal and return purified water, promoting oxygenation and reducing environmental impacts.

The project also ensures the collection and proper treatment of sanitary sewage in the region. The system will be connected to the Sewage Treatment Station (ETE) of Una, currently under construction on Arthur Bernardes Highway. With 72% of the sanitation works completed, the project is being executed by the State Department of Public Works (Seop) and will ensure the removal of sewage improperly discharged into the canal, improving water quality and providing more basic infrastructure to the population.

Partnership and investment - The Linear Park of New Doca is the result of a partnership between the Government of Pará and the Federal Government, through Itaipu Binacional. The project covers 1.2 kilometers of canal, with drainage, landscaping, urbanization, bike lane, and construction of walkways, in addition to the replacement of the gates for tide control and flood prevention.

More than 2.4 kilometers of Avenida Visconde de Souza Franco will also be paved, and new deep and shallow drainage systems will be built to receive rainwater, sanitary sewage network, and drinking water piping.
