More than 60 squares, 30 courts, 10 gyms, and 3 sports complexes have already been delivered in Pará by the current administration of the State Government, through the State Secretariat of Public Works (Seop). The investment reflects the promotion of more leisure, health, and sociability for the population, in addition to boosting job creation, income, and tourism in the State. About 30 squares are still under construction, as well as the sports complexes in Santarém and Breu Branco.

“Investment in works that involve culture, sports, and leisure is essential for improving the quality of life of the people of Pará. These are spaces that promote physical and mental health, the education of individuals, as well as encouraging the preservation of local history through cultural activities. These public facilities also enhance the urban areas of municipalities and generate new job and income opportunities,” highlights Ruy Cabral, Secretary of Public Works.

With over 75% of the work completed, in partnership with the city hall, the new Sports and Leisure Complex in Santarém, which has already had the first phase of construction completed, now features leisure areas, social spaces, and playgrounds. Retiree Edinaldo Monteiro, a resident of the municipality, exercises daily in the space.

“We have to take advantage of the space to do physical activity and maintain our vigor. I always come here to run or do some type of exercise, which is very beneficial for me. The children also enjoy the first part of the Complex that has been delivered to play and have fun. The expectation is high for the completion of the works,” celebrates Edinaldo.

Among the recent deliveries from the State, made through agreements established between the Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat of Planning and Administration (Seplad), and the city halls of the municipalities, with resources from the Pará Economic Development Fund (FDE), are the construction of the multi-sports gym and the modernization of the sports complex in Garrafão do Norte, as well as the new multi-sports gym in Brasil Novo.

The department continues with four ongoing projects: the sports court of the Antônio de Freitas Municipal Full-Time School and the soccer field in Alacilândia, in Conceição do Araguaia; the construction of the Municipal Stadium of Juruti; and the reconstruction of the Menino de Deus square in Marituba.

In May of this year, the first phase of the reconstruction of the Menino Deus Square was delivered, which includes areas for pets, a space dedicated to leisure with pets, a sensory garden with flower beds that stimulate the five senses, and a sensory trail.

Various facilities in the square also underwent improvements: the skate park received new paint and flooring; the outdoor gym had its equipment replaced; the playground gained a concrete base for the swings, and the sports courts were rebuilt with new paint and replacement of the sand. New kiosks and container bathrooms were also installed, replacing the previous structures. The second phase will bring a food court, inclusive spaces, and an interactive fountain.

Nursing technician Cássia Rosário, a resident of Marituba, recommends the visit. “The first phase of the Menino Deus square is well executed; I really liked the new spaces delivered. I have a habit of visiting the square after mass; I usually go for a snack, and I think it is a great leisure space, safe, especially for young people. My expectation for the delivery of the second phase is the best possible, as this square hosts the main events in the city,” she says.
