The Government of Pará delivered on this Friday (18) more 20 kilometers of paved PA-477, which connects the municipalities of Xinguara, Piçarra, and São Geraldo do Araguaia, in the Carajás and Araguaia Integration regions, in the southern and southeastern parts of the State. Executed by the State Department of Infrastructure and Logistics (Seinfra), the paving of the road was a historical demand from the population and will transform the logistics and economy of regions that stand out mainly for livestock farming.

The governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, highlighted the State's commitment to ensuring the improvement of road infrastructure and strengthening regional integration, promoting economic growth, social inclusion, and better living conditions for the population.

"Today is a day to celebrate. Everyone dreamed of this paved road, dreamed of quality integration between the municipalities of São Geraldo do Araguaia and Piçarra. They dreamed of development and everything that the road brings for job generation, opening new opportunities, valuing the rural producer, reducing freight costs for the producer, and safety for those who travel. That is what we want, to work even more to ensure development and progress for the region. And I celebrate a lot, together with Vice Governor Hana (Hana Ghassan), that we can be here today, fulfilling the commitment we made to the region, that we would be paving PA-477. And today it is a reality," stated the head of the state Executive.

Benefits - Vice Governor Hana Ghassan emphasized the importance of safe roads to boost the economy in the State. "It is important to see a road like this being delivered, bringing benefits to the population, to production, boosting the economy, because we want that. A prosperous and rich state like Pará needs to have good roads. And that is what we are doing, and we will work even harder," she stated.

PA-477 is essential for the flow of agricultural and livestock production, in addition to ensuring better mobility conditions for residents and workers who depend on the road daily. Farmer Breno Ferreira Macena travels along PA-477 transporting goods and knows the difficulties faced before the paving.

"I travel a lot on this road. Before, it was very complicated to come to the city because there were many holes and dirt roads. In the rainy season, it was too muddy. It was very complicated to reach the city. Today, it is wonderful. A blessing from God! Today I took 40 minutes to travel from home to the city. Before, it took an hour and a half. With the asphalt, everything changed because the work is well done," he assured.

Hana Ghassan: paved and safe road boosts the economy

University student and vendor, Eudes Augusto Lacerda Rocha always uses the road to travel from Piçarra to São Geraldo do Araguaia - about 46 km. For him, the paving has already reduced travel time. "I used to pass through here when it was transitioning; it was just mud. It wasn't easy. It was quite complicated. I remember that the journey between the municipalities took two hours. Nowadays, I can get there in 20 minutes with the new paving," he reported.

Quality of life - In 2023, the state government completed the paving of a 13-kilometer stretch between the headquarters of Piçarra and the Vila Armazém Castro (belonging to São Geraldo do Araguaia). With the new construction front towards BR-153 highway, the total delivered to the population exceeds 40 kilometers of new asphalt, ensuring more quality of life and sustainable development.

"We are delivering more 20 kilometers of asphalt paving on PA-477, bringing development and transformation to the region. Here there is the flow of agriculture and livestock, and people also visit the beaches. This will encourage tourism in the region," emphasized the State Secretary of Infrastructure and Logistics, Adler Silveira.

For Elias Rodrigo dos Santos, a resident of a village located on the banks of PA-477, seeing the paved road is a special gift for the community, which has been eagerly waiting for this moment for several years. "Before, it was just a path to walk on foot. There wasn't even a road for cars to pass. It was very difficult. I myself faced difficulties because I had to carry the bags on my back. When I heard about the work, I thought it was important and was looking forward to it. Today, it is ready. And I know it will bring development to the region," said Elias.
