The program continues until Sunday (20) with competitions bringing together representatives from Alenquer, Almeirim, Curuá, Itaituba, Monte Alegre, Óbidos, and Santarém

Emotion and joy with the presentation of cultural dances marked the opening ceremony of the XIV Edition of the Open Games of Pará (Joapa) on the night of this Thursday (17), kicking off the fifth phase of the Baixo Amazonas region in Monte Alegre, western Pará. The event took place at 7 PM, at the Curaxi Sports Gym, on Nini Cavalcante street.

The sports ceremony gathered about 651 athletes from the municipalities of Alenquer, Almeirim, Curuá, Itaituba, Monte Alegre, Óbidos, and Santarém. The competitions involve five modalities: futsal, beach soccer, handball, volleyball, and table tennis. The program continues until Sunday (20).

The deputy secretary of Seel, José Francisco, emphasized the importance of Joapa in promoting inclusion and fostering sports practices. “There are seven municipalities, almost 700 athletes competing in these important games for this region. So, we are here not only promoting sports and leisure but also integration among peoples and social inclusion. This is the fifth stage of the ten we will hold throughout Pará,” said the deputy secretary.

Joapa is considered the largest amateur sports competition in the State, encompassing 144 municipalities in Pará across 10 regional stages. Volleyball athlete Samara Serrão highlighted her happiness to participate in another edition of the games. “So, we congratulate the Government of the State of Pará for promoting this for us. It is an honor to be here again, as I said, it’s been 10 years of Joapa. I think the Government of the State can only add value to all the athletes we have in our western Pará region,” she said.

The matches of the Open Games of Pará will begin on the morning of this Friday (18), with all modalities, focusing on the Efficiency Trophy, awarded to the municipality with the best performance in each regional phase.
