Military Police is on the front line in the protection of forests

On this July 17, National Forest Day, the ongoing and strategic work of the Military Police of Pará, through the Environmental Policing Command (CPA), gains even more visibility in the fight for the preservation of natural resources. With actions ranging from land patrols to inspections on waterways, the corporation acts preventively and repressively against environmental crimes throughout the state of Pará.

The CPA is responsible for coordinating the actions of three operational units: the Environmental Policing Battalion (BPA) and the Independent River Police Company (CIPFLU), both based in Belém, and the 1st Independent Environmental Policing Company (1st CIPAMB) in Santarém. Together, these units carry out continuous work of ostensive policing and integrated actions with federal and state environmental institutions.

In 2024, the Environmental Police rescued 1,288 animals and released 1,942 into their natural habitat and made 431 referrals of unhealthy animals to appropriate institutions.

In 2025, from January 1 to July 14, there were 632 rescues and 257 wild birds seized, totaling 635 seizures. During this period, 425 animals were released into their natural habitat and 285 were sent to care centers due to not being fit for immediate return to nature.

Activities - there are various activities that go far beyond repressing illegal acts, such as educational actions, rescue of wild animals, patrols in conservation areas, and operations aimed at raising awareness and enforcement.

Projects and Operations - In 2024 alone, the CPA participated in 72 integrated operations, involving agencies from all three levels of government. The actions include combating illegal deforestation to social initiatives that combine sustainability and digital inclusion. One example is the “Motherboard Action,” carried out in Santarém by the 1st Independent Environmental Policing Company (1st CIPAMB). The project transforms the correct disposal of electronics into a learning opportunity: those who deliver electronic waste receive a plant seedling and contribute to the training of young people in computer skills, with recovered equipment returned to the community.

“National Forest Day is symbolic, but our work happens every day, in all regions of the State. Our commitment is also to protect biodiversity, our flora, and ensure that future generations find the forest still standing, in accordance with the guidelines of the Government of Pará. With integrated action, technical planning, and active presence in the most sensitive territories, the Environmental Police Battalion remains one of the main barriers against environmental degradation in the Brazilian Amazon.” Stated the General Commander, Colonel Dílson Júnior.

Partnerships - In addition to the actions planned by the institution itself, the PM also provides support in operations of different environmental agencies. In this year of 2025 alone, joint missions with various agencies were carried out, totaling 29 operations. Of these, six were conducted in partnership with the Secretary of Environment and Climate (SEMAS), through the Amazon Alive Operation, 13 with SEMAS in the Curupira Operation, 6 with IDEFLOR, and 4 with ICMBio. Moreover, when requested, support is also provided to IBAMA and DEMAPA.
