The governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, was awarded the Medal of the Order of Naval Merit this Wednesday (16) in Belém. The ceremony took place at the 4th Naval District and was attended by the commander of the 4th COM4DN, Vice Admiral Adriano Marcelino Batista. The head of the Pará Executive was granted the rank of Grand Officer.

The Order of Naval Merit is the highest honor granted by the Brazilian Navy. Established on July 4, 1934, it is a tribute to military personnel of the Navy and other Armed Forces, as well as civilians, national and foreign institutions, in recognition of significant services rendered to the Brazilian Navy.

In thanking for the tribute, Helder Barbalho expressed his happiness and honor in representing Pará society in this recognition from the Navy. "I feel honored by this gesture from the Brazilian Navy to decorate me with this symbol of recognition of the highest order, which is the Order of Naval Merit. Gratitude for this recognition, which adds to the partnership we have built over the years between the Government of Pará and the Brazilian Navy. If there was already the customary deference for the institutional relationship, today I have even more gratitude and relevance for the gesture. I hope to honor this deference, which I receive today on behalf of Pará society," said the governor.

He also emphasized the importance of the work carried out by the Navy in the State, especially development projects and actions in riverside communities. "The Brazilian Navy has played a strategic role in the growth of the Amazon, in the growth of the State of Pará, in strengthening our protection, and also in boosting our development. We, from Pará, recognize our rivers as our streets. And, from the protection and services provided by the Navy to our population, this relationship becomes grand. I want to thank the institutional partnership that allows us to work for regional development, so that our State, which has 75% of native forest and a large territorial extension, continues to grow," emphasized Helder Barbalho.

Governor highlighted the importance of the sustainability agenda in the Amazon

Conference - The joint work being carried out for COP 30 (world conference on climate change) in Belém was also highlighted by the governor. "I need to acknowledge the partnership at this special moment that the Amazon is experiencing and, particularly, our State, with the leadership and sustainability agenda, and the promotion of the largest environmental event on the planet. The Brazilian Navy has been a strategic part, whether in the partnership for infrastructure works to happen, or in the partnership with hospitality solutions, which we have also built together, with the presence and institutional strengthening, combined with other security forces, so that we can ensure that the event can take place with the necessary institutional security," he emphasized.

The commander of the 4th Naval District reinforced that the tribute granted to the governor is the result of the working and institutional relationship between the Brazilian Navy and the Government of Pará. "This is the highest honor that the Navy grants to people who stand out for their dedication to our institution. The governor has been a fundamental participant in all the Navy's demands. He has a strategic vision. He understands that, especially the activities of the maritime authority in a state like Pará, with a great potential of the river and maritime network, are fundamental. This is a just recognition that the Brazilian Navy gives him for this strategic vision of these activities within the context of the social and economic development of the State," stated Vice Admiral Adriano Marcelino Batista.
