Forty professionals celebrated, on the night of this Thursday (10), the completion of the basic English course promoted by the Capacita COP30 program. A ceremony held in the auditorium of the Belém Bus Terminal marked the conclusion of the training aimed at those who work directly in public service and urban mobility at one of the main entry and exit points of the capital of Pará.

Participants in the course included employees of the National Society for Tourist Road Support (Sinart), the company responsible for managing the terminal, and members of the Cooperative of Autonomous Taxi Drivers of the Belém Bus Terminal and Metropolitan Region (Cootaterb). The initiative reinforces the program's commitment to qualifying strategic sectors for welcoming visitors during the 30th UN Conference on Climate Change (COP30).

Present at the closing ceremony, the Secretary of Science, Technology and Higher, Professional and Technological Education of Pará (Sectec), Victor Dias, highlighted the impact of the action. “Once again, Capacita COP30 fulfills its role of preparing professionals in essential areas. The transport sector is one of the main points of contact with tourists and conference participants, and this qualification ensures a more welcoming, efficient, and, above all, prepared service for the challenges of an international event.”

For the participants, the opportunity to learn a new language directly impacts their daily work. Student Karen Liandra Morais, who works in the terminal's service sector, celebrated the learnings. “English is a universal language, and this training was essential not only to improve service in our daily work here at the terminal but also to expand our professional and personal possibilities. Now I feel more confident to welcome visitors from other countries, understand their needs, and provide quality support. Moreover, I think about the trips I still want to take, and I know that mastering the language will be a differential anywhere in the world.”

Among the graduates is also the president of Cootaterb, Raimundo Araújo. “Participating in this training was an enriching experience. The course gave us more confidence to deal with tourists, especially those who do not speak Portuguese. Often, the first contact with the city happens right inside the taxi, and being able to understand and communicate in English makes all the difference. This qualification shows that we are committed to providing excellent service,” he said.

The coordinator of Capacita COP30, Andrey Rabelo, mentioned that the English course has been the most sought after in the program, which highlights the interest of professionals in preparing to welcome the international public. According to him, the certification held at the Belém Bus Terminal has symbolic and strategic value, as workers in the sector work directly in the transport and reception of visitors. “This action reinforces the central purpose of the program, which is to qualify those on the front lines of tourism, hospitality, leisure, and transport sectors, improving the experience of those who arrive and valuing those who receive.”
