Free hydration ensures safe leisure at Parque da Cidade

Equipment installed by Cosanpa also reduces plastic waste in the Park

The Companhia de Saneamento do Pará (Cosanpa) delivered a hydration point with free water at Parque da Cidade, in Belém. The equipment increases the availability of water to users and encourages a reduction in plastic consumption in the area delivered by the Government of Pará.

This is the third hydration point delivered by Cosanpa in the capital. The other equipment is installed at Parque do Utinga and Porto Futuro.

Chemist and amateur runner, Felipe Barradas approved the installation of the equipment at Parque da Cidade. “I have been running for a while, I am always at Utinga and I had already seen a point like this there. It makes all the difference because I know the importance of hydration, especially with this temperature, in the humidity that it is, we cannot slack off at all,” Felipe said.

At Parque da Cidade, the hydration point provided by Cosanpa is located near the soccer courts. The position is strategic and will facilitate water consumption, which according to doctor Graça Mendes, should be given extra attention during the Amazon summer.

“Normally, people should consume between 2 and 3 liters of water a day. With the high temperatures of the Amazon summer, the practice of physical activities and exposure to the Sun, fluid loss increases and should be constantly replenished with water or even with fruit juices. Another point to observe is the care for the skin, which should be protected with high-factor sunscreen, compatible with the skin,” explains Graça, who works as an Occupational doctor at Cosanpa.

For the president of Cosanpa, José Fernando Mendonça Gomes Junior, the delivery of another hydration point reinforces the Company's commitment to social well-being. “It is an immense joy to contribute so that this great structure delivered by the Government of Pará offers well-being to the population, with leisure, sustainability, social care, and access to water,” said José Fernando.

Arts teacher, Adriano Souza, went to Parque da Cidade with his family and praised the initiative: "Good idea," he said.

With his family, arts teacher Adriano Souza visited Parque da Cidade for the first time and spoke about all the structure provided free of charge to the population. “It is a very large and well-built park. The idea of free water is good because Pará is a hot state, within the Amazon, where the largest sources of fresh water in the world are located. So, it is a great initiative,” Adriano evaluated.

Health and sustainability - In addition to providing free water for the population, the hydration points installed by Cosanpa also encourage a reduction in plastic consumption, through a digital counter that calculates, with each water refill, how many containers are no longer consumed or discarded in the environment.

“Since the delivery of the first equipment in January of this year, more than 40,000 bottles or cups have stopped circulating and over 13,000 liters of water have been consumed by the population. Therefore, we are working to expand this type of initiative,” added Paloma Lins, director of People and Logistics at Cosanpa. Just like the machine installed at Porto Futuro, the point at Parque da Cidade also has an extra water outlet to serve pets.

Parque da Cidade - With 14 areas dedicated to sports, leisure, and socializing, Parque da Cidade features bike paths, courts, a running track, playgrounds, an outdoor gym, and an Olympic-standard skate park — the second largest in Brazil. The project also includes sustainable solutions, such as solar panels, natural water treatment, and afforestation with 2,500 trees planted and transplanted.

Until July 31, the Park will operate from 8 am to 10 pm until July 31, except on Mondays, when the complex will be under maintenance in the morning, opening only at 6 pm. In August, the area will be handed over to the UN for the assembly of the pavilions of the Blue and Green Zones of COP 30.
