Bragança celebrates 412 years with the strengthening of investments from the State Government

In addition to education, health, and security, tourism is another sector encouraged by the current administration, which delivered two new waterfronts for the population, in Ajuruteua and on the banks of the Rio Caeté.

In celebration of Bragança's 412 years, celebrated this Tuesday (08), the Government of Pará reinforces its commitment to the development of the municipality through a series of investments that have been made since 2019. The delivery of the new Usina da Paz marks the date and adds to important advances in various areas, such as education, health, and public safety.

Schools have been renovated and new units are under construction, such as a daycare from the "Daycares throughout Pará" program. In health, the Ruth Nobre Bragança Polyclinic offers 32 medical specialties, and the new Hemopa agency strengthens the hospital network in the region. In security, the city now has video monitoring and integrated technology for more effective actions.

Professor Rosiane Souza, a daughter of Bragantinos, emphasizes the importance of the investments made, which have improved the city, such as the reconstruction of the Orla do Rio Caeté, delivered in 2023 by the State.

“My mother has always lived here, she is a daughter of Bragança. We are here to value the municipality of Bragança, as we are children of Bragantinos, we have to value what is ours. That people have closer access to the riverbank, because in the past there was none of this, the waterfront was not attractive to people. Now it is much better, really attractive, right? This increases the economy, leisure,” said the professor.

The state schools ‘Domingas da Costa Sousa’, in the Acarajozinho community; ‘Deputado André Dias’, in the village of Bacuriteua; and ‘Manoel Julião Garcia Castanho’ are among the main state investments in education in the municipality, as well as the progress of the construction of a unit of the "Daycares throughout Pará" program.

"Increasing the quality of education in Pará is one of the Government's priorities, and it is our commitment to ensure this access. The Government, together with Seduc, has been investing in all regions of the State, and in Bragança it could not be different, schools are being restructured to offer a higher quality education to our students, ensuring more development for the region," highlighted Ricardo Sefer, interim Secretary of State for Education.

With over 130,000 inhabitants, Bragança has also received investments in health. The Ruth Nobre Bragança Polyclinic is one of the highlights. Delivered in 2024, the unit, which offers 32 medical specialties and state-of-the-art equipment, aims to expand access to specialized consultations and essential diagnostic tests. Also last year, the municipality received the 19th Transfusion Agency (AT) from the Foundation Center for Hemotherapy and Hematology of Pará (Hemopa), which ensures the safe and adequate supply of blood to the three hospitals in the municipality, as well as the hospitals in Augusto Corrêa and Viseu.

“Since 2019, we have been expanding and strengthening the health network in the municipality of Bragança and throughout the northeastern region of Pará. The Polyclinic stands out for its efficiency in service and for offering various medical specialties, in addition to having modern equipment that allows for precise examinations for accurate diagnoses. These investments reinforce our commitment to ensuring access to quality health, promoting adequate treatment, and preventing avoidable hospitalizations,” stated the Secretary of State for Public Health, Ivete Vaz.

For Arlene do Socorro da Silva Souza, a 40-year-old self-employed individual who was born in Bragança, the inauguration of one of the essential services for the population, the Polyclinic, is a cause for celebration. “The population is very happy, the polyclinic has helped many people who cannot afford private care, and it has come to improve things a lot. Bragança has grown a lot in recent years, it has developed well, is well-known, our flour, in short, everything from Bragança is well-known all over the world.

In the area of security, in addition to increasing the workforce, the State Secretariat for Public Security and Social Defense (Segup) has increased investments in technology to ensure the well-being of the population. The installation of a video monitoring system, with 11 cameras installed in the main traffic corridors and strategic points in the municipality, and a public safety totem, which is part of the "Smart Cities" project, are actions that promote more agility and effectiveness of the agents.

“The acquisition of equipment, such as firearms, radios, ballistic vests, and motorcycles, is also among our investments that have helped, especially, the Municipal Guard and the traffic agency of Bragança. Several other deliveries, such as the reconstruction of barracks, have been made so that we can provide better working conditions for our police officers, are highlights. These improvements have made a difference,” points out Ualame Machado, head of Segup. The Municipal City Hall, in partnership with the Government, has made a new space available for the construction of the new Military Police Battalion.

Tourism – In 2023, Bragança gained two new waterfronts. One at the beach of Ajuruteua and the other, reconstructed, on the banks of the Rio Caeté. The spaces received urbanization, drainage, and paving works and became tourist spots that promote culture and strengthen the local economy of the region. The waterfronts promote quality of life for the population and provide greater comfort for residents and visitors, who seek the natural beauties and cultural heritage of the municipality.

Culture – The creation of the first community public library in a quilombola territory, the signing of the agreement for the reconstruction and expansion of the historic building of the Barracão da Marujada, the delivery of the Theater Museum of Marujada, completely rebuilt, and the return of the viewpoint and the image of São Benedito, rebuilt in 2019 after the collapse, are highlights among the investments in the area.

Economy – Bragança, one of the most important municipalities in the State, has an economy that revolves mainly around fishing activities, agriculture, and commerce. Based on this reality, the State Government has been investing in these sectors since the beginning of the administration in 2019. The reconstruction of the Agroecological Training Center, Innovation, Technology, and Applied Research of Northeast Pará, known as the Didactic Unit of Bragança (UDB); the certification of agro-industries to ensure the quality of the products produced, via the Artisan Vegetable Seal of the State Agency for Agricultural Defense of Pará (Adepará); and the recent signing of the Technical Cooperation Agreement to strengthen and expand rural technical assistance services to family farmers in the municipality are among the investments.

Anniversary – Bragança, originally inhabited by indigenous people of the Tupinambá nation, was one of the initial poles of the occupation and colonization of the Amazon. Studies indicate that the French were the first Europeans to know the region, possibly from July 8, 1613. On October 2, 1854, it was elevated to the category of city by the then president of the Province of Grão-Pará, Lieutenant Colonel Sebastião do Rego Barros, with the name of Bragança, in homage to the Royal Family of Orleans and Bragança.
