Integrated inspection reinforces security in the rivers and islands of Belém on the first weekend of July

The inspection and prevention actions in the rivers, carried out by public security agents in integrated actions, were intensified on the first weekend of July in the islands, resorts, ports, and marinas of the Metropolitan Region of Belém. The main objective is to oversee the regularization of bars, restaurants, and vessels, in order to ensure the safety of visitors and riverside residents living in these areas.

The actions are coordinated by the Fluvial Public Security Group (GFLu), linked to the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), in conjunction with the Fluvial Police Station (DPFlu) and the Independent Fluvial Policing Company (CIPFlu), as well as other federal, state, and municipal inspection agencies that are part of Operation Summer 2025, which began on June 28 and will continue until August 4.

“Within the summer operation, we have a specific job related to the island region. Not only throughout Pará but especially in the Metropolitan Region of Belém, where we have dozens of islands that need to be covered, given that we have a very large movement of residents from the RMB, as well as tourists, who visit the island of Combu, Cotijuba, Outeiro, and several other nearby islands. Because of this, we launched a specific operation in the rivers, having a base on a boat that serves as a Mobile Police Station near Praça Princesa Isabel, gathering the focal points of the security forces that patrol the area. In addition, we have the support of vessels that we use to carry out inspections, checks on jet skis, boats, and passengers. Furthermore, we provide guidance and preparation to the restaurants and bars that exist on these islands and in the rivers, so that we can guide the population, check safety, but also be able to inspect so that not only the person being served but the worker themselves has this safety guaranteed during Operation Summer,” explained the head of Segup, Ualame Machado.

Speed

Fluvial policing will remain reinforced every weekend in July, from Friday to Sunday, with the operation of a Fluvial Police Station on the Gflu vessel “Estrela do Norte,” anchored in front of Praça Princesa Isabel, in the Condor neighborhood, ensuring prompt response to occurrences and for the population that needs to contact security agencies in the area.

At the location, security agents and the boats used for ostensive patrolling and inspections along the Guamá River, in front of the Belém waterfront, and on the islands of Combu, Cotijuba, and Prainha, as well as the channels, ports, and marinas, gather. In total, 7 vessels and 26 agents carry out patrols in the RMB.

According to the Operations Coordinator of GFLu, Lieutenant Colonel Bruno Anaissi, on weekends, the flow of people who take trips on the rivers and cross to the restaurants operating on the islands increases significantly, therefore the planned actions aim to always ensure order and safety for these people. “The planned actions aim, mainly, to offer safety on the rivers, so we set up every weekend, reinforcing integrated actions at strategic points, aiming to safeguard the safety and integrity of visitors seeking leisure on the islands, so that in the event of any occurrence we can ensure agility in the ostensive response and approaches to people and vessels, in order to prevent accidents caused by intoxication, and to establishments that receive many people during this period. The preventive actions guarantee both safety on the rivers and protection for riverside residents, workers, and tourists,” he emphasized.

Productivity

With the actions carried out from Friday (04) until 6 PM this Sunday (06), 5 bars and restaurants, 15 vessels, and 44 jet skis were inspected, of which 2 were notified for not carrying documentation and one was notified and seized by the Brazilian Navy for exceeding the number of passengers.

Seizure

On Friday (04), during inspections at the ports in conjunction with the Military and Civil Police, Artran, and the Brazilian Navy, a vessel bound for Oeiras do Pará was seized due to administrative irregularities.

Integration

The operation in the fluvial network continues to be coordinated by GFLU in partnership with the Military and Civil Police, Military Fire Brigade, State Regulatory Agency for Transport, Municipal Guard of Belém, Municipal Secretary of Security, Public Order and Urban Mobility, and the Brazilian Navy.
