The 19th anniversary and the end of the second module of classes of the 'Choro do Pará' project will be marked by a free concert at Teatro Margarida Schivasappa next Wednesday, the 9th, starting at 8 PM.

Choro do Pará is a project maintained by the Cultural Foundation of Pará (FCP) for 19 years, being one of the first free Choro schools in Brazil, offering non-formal education to professional and amateur musicians, music undergraduate students, and students from technical music schools, with classes that regularly take place at Casa das Artes through percussion workshops, six and seven-string guitars, cavaquinho, and solo instruments.

Paulo Moura

"The project aims to prevent the choro genre from dying out, to strengthen this genre, and from it, to form new groups, as has been happening from the free classes offered, and also to encourage amateur or professional musicians to get to know choro," explains Paulo Moura, coordinator of Musical Language at FCP and responsible for the project.

He details that the concert will feature works by great masters of choro such as Abel Ferreira, Pixinguinha, and Luiz Gonzaga. “The show will bring musical classics of the choro genre, being a moment of contemplation of Brazilian culture,” he concludes.
