HGT Hemodialysis Center Achieves Excellence Index in Patient Treatment Effectiveness
With an average kt/V above the minimum recommended, the unit reinforces the quality of care and highlights the involvement of the multidisciplinary team

The Hemodialysis Center of the General Hospital of Tailândia (HGT) has reached an important milestone in care efficiency. During the month of June, the unit recorded an average kt/V of 1.33, exceeding the minimum recommended value (1.2) for effectiveness in toxin removal during dialysis. This index directly reflects the quality of life and survival of patients with chronic kidney disease.
To reinforce the importance of the indicator and promote technical alignment, the multidisciplinary team of the center participated, this past Wednesday (2), in a meeting led by nephrologist Nicola Oliva. The meeting highlighted the relevance of monitoring kt/V as part of clinical safety protocols.

“The kt/V shows whether the hemodialysis session was effective in removing the accumulated toxins in the body. Values above 1.2 indicate that the treatment is being carried out adequately, with more safety and better clinical control,” explained the specialist.
According to Nicola, the index is calculated monthly for each patient. The result obtained in June is considered significant, especially for a unit that started its activities only six months ago. “Reaching this average is a great achievement. It shows that we follow clinical protocols rigorously, which contributes to better health outcomes,” he added.
Structure and care - Since its inauguration in December 2024, the HGT Hemodialysis Center has already performed about 2,710 sessions and currently serves 45 active patients. The team consists of 31 professionals, including nephrologists, nurses, nursing technicians, psychologists, nutritionists, social workers, and support staff.
The nephrologist nurse and technical manager of the unit, Jenifer Ribeiro, highlighted that the good results reflect the engagement of the professionals. “Continuous improvement is only possible with the involvement of everyone. Every action in care directly impacts the effectiveness of treatment. This collective awareness is what strengthens us,” she stated.

Quality of life - Patient Raimunda Marli, 64, shared her experience after starting treatment at the unit. “When the clinic was still under construction, I prayed every day for it to be ready soon. Now, receiving treatment in my own city is a blessing. I feel well cared for and welcomed by everyone,” she reported emotionally.
