Pará extends vaccination against rabies in herbivores until July 31
Extended deadline meets producers in the northeastern region, where herd immunization is mandatory

The Government of Pará, through the State Agency for Agricultural Defense of Pará (Adepará), has extended the deadline for vaccination against rabies in herbivores until July 31. Producers must acquire and apply the vaccine by this date and have until August 15 to report to the agency the number of vaccinated animals.
The extension responds to a demand from producers in the 50 municipalities of the northeastern region of Pará, where vaccination is mandatory. According to veterinarian and state agricultural inspector Khrisna Tabosa, there were difficulties in acquiring vaccines from registered dealers, which prompted the measure. "The extension allows dealers to regularize their supply and gives producers time to acquire the vaccine and protect their herds," she explained.

Failure to declare vaccination makes the producer non-compliant and prevents the issuance of the Animal Transit Guide (GTA), which is necessary for transporting cattle within the state. Without the GTA, the movement of the herd is blocked in the Adepará system.
Vaccination is mandatory - Annual vaccination against rabies is provided for in State Ordinance No. 8,272/2021, updated by Ordinance No. 3,897/2025, which establishes the official campaign calendar and facilitates producers' access to the declaration service.

"Rabies has no cure. It is a lethal disease, and vaccination is the most effective form of prevention. The producer has the duty to protect their animals by applying the vaccine and informing Adepará about the number and species vaccinated," reinforced veterinarian Khrisna Tabosa.
Control and prevention - The campaign is part of the State Program for the Control of Rabies in Herbivores (PECRH), which aims to reduce the economic losses of the disease in Pará's livestock, as well as to protect public health. The program also conducts control of bats, hematophagous, and sanitary education actions.
