More than a thousand people participated this Sunday (29) in the first edition of the Water Run, organized by the Pará Sanitation Company (Cosanpa), at the Camillo Vianna State Park in Belém. The event marked the conclusion of the Green June actions, a month dedicated to environmental awareness and education.

The initiative featured two categories: an 8 km run and a 4 km walk. The start took place at 6 am, in the parking lot of the Pará Institute of Forest Development and Biodiversity (Ideflor-Bio), with a route through Utinga Park, passing by the Bolonha and Água Preta Lakes — responsible for supplying over 70% of the population of Belém and Ananindeua. To ensure the hydration of the athletes, two support points were provided, distributing 7,000 cups of water.

“Today is a milestone in the history of Cosanpa and a day of great joy. The Water Run was designed to bring the Company closer to society and promote health through physical activities, which is one of the goals of our board and also of the State Government, a partner in the initiative. Additionally, we are encouraging the conscious use of Utinga Park, which houses the lakes that supply the Metropolitan Region,” highlighted Cosanpa's president, José Fernando de Mendonça Gomes Júnior.

Champions

In about 30 minutes, the top finishers in the male and female categories crossed the finish line. The female champion was Rosângela Muniz, an athlete from the municipality of Salinas, who praised the organization of the event and the conditions of the course.

“It is always very nice to run in Utinga, due to the pleasant weather and safety. It was a well-organized race. I am very grateful to the sport, which has been growing a lot, with more events and more people participating,” said Rosângela.

In the male category, the winner was Rosivaldo Silva, who has maintained a career of over two decades in road racing.

“I have been running since I was 14, and I have been participating in competitions for 25 years. Despite the difficulties, I remain committed to the sport. With the support of my sponsors, I participated today in another well-organized event. Now I return to Bragança with this achievement, already preparing for the race in honor of the city's anniversary,” said the athlete.

Solidarity and Inclusion

The Water Run also had a social character. To participate, athletes donated 2 kg of non-perishable food when picking up their race kits, which will be donated to social institutions.

“We envisioned an inclusive event with a social purpose. We collected food, included a walking category for those who cannot run, and offered awards for the category of People with Disabilities. All of this contributed to making the Water Run a true success,” stated Cosanpa's Director of Management, People, and Logistics, Paloma Lins.
