Southeast Pará Hospital promotes blood donation campaign in Marabá
On June 25 and 26, the unit mobilizes donors to strengthen the Hemopa stocks and ensure care for those in need.

In reference to Red June, a month dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of blood donation, the Regional Hospital of Southeast Pará – Dr. Geraldo Veloso (HRSP), in Marabá, is promoting a campaign on June 25 and 26. The action, held at the Pará Hemotherapy and Hematology Center Foundation (Hemopa), aims to strengthen the stocks and ensure the continuity of medical care in the region.
As a reference in medium and high complexity, the hospital concentrates the highest demand for transfusions in the region, due to the high number of daily surgeries and the care of serious accident victims, who frequently require blood. Therefore, keeping the stocks replenished is essential to ensure continuous assistance.

Dr. Socorro Leão, who works at the hospital's Transfusion Agency, the department responsible for the campaign, highlights the importance of community participation. "Blood donation is an act of solidarity that saves lives. Our demand is constant, and we depend on the support of donors to keep the stocks at safe levels. We invite everyone who can contribute to join this campaign," she emphasized.
The doctor also reinforced the importance of informing the hospital code at the time of donation. "We ask that when attending Hemopa, the donor informs the code 986, which is the identifier for the Regional. This way we can adequately monitor the results of the actions developed by the hospital in the campaigns and also in the hospital's donor recruitment, carried out in the hospital's routine always aiming to help patients who need this gesture," concluded the doctor.
The action has the support of the Faculty of Medicine of Pará (Facimpa) and the Blood Friends, a group of volunteers that has been collaborating for years in mobilizing donors and raising awareness among the population about the importance of donation. With this partnership, the Pará Government unit reinforces its commitment to the health of the region, encouraging solidarity and care for life.

The biomedical Amanda Neves, who also works at the hospital, explains that each bag of blood can save up to four lives, as the donated material is separated into different components: red blood cells, platelets, and plasma, which meet distinct clinical needs.
"Red blood cells are used to replenish blood in patients who have suffered losses in surgeries or accidents. Platelets are used in the treatment of diseases that compromise coagulation, such as leukemias and during chemotherapy. Plasma is indicated in coagulation disorders, including those resulting from severe hemorrhages such as polytraumas, one of the most important and serious transfusion demands of the hospital," she explained.
