Literary festival at the Casa da Linguagem celebrates the poet Max Martins, this Tuesday, 24
The free program includes lectures, video screenings, a fair of handmade books, and musical performances

The Cultural Foundation of Pará (FCP) promotes this Tuesday, 24, a program in honor of the Pará poet and former director of the Casa da Linguagem, Max Martins. If he were alive, the poet would be 99 years old. The program will take place at the Casa da Linguagem, from 3 PM to 7 PM, and includes lectures, video screenings, a fair of handmade books, and musical performances. Admission is free.
The event in honor of the poet has been taking place for over ten years and since 2024 has been called “Arraial das Letrinhas,” also as a reference to the writer. “This name originated with the Casa da Linguagem in 1991, when Max Martins was the director. The staff made the little flags with newspapers and magazines, hence the name. We are bringing back this tradition, which has been lost over time,” says Elaine Oliveira, a technician at the FCP.
Promoted by the FCP, the “Arraial das Letrinhas” has its program developed in partnership with friends, family, poets, teachers, and admirers of Max Martins. This year the event starts at 3 PM with an audiovisual showcase titled ‘Max,’ by Vasco Cavalcante and Videopoema Max Remix, by Clei Souza, in addition to a photographic exhibition about the poet.
In the auditorium, at 4 PM, the lecture: ‘Eroticism and nature in the diaries of the poet Max Martins’ is held, with poet and researcher Paulo Vieira, along with a reading of poems, where guests pay tribute to the writer. To participate, one must be at least 14 years old.
The program also includes cultural performances, among them: a musical presentation with singer and songwriter Argentino Neto, named “The underground sound that your Silence Calls,” specially dedicated to the poetic legacy of the author. To close the event, the Casa da Linguagem becomes the stage for the carimbó group Águia Negra.
Max Martins was one of the most important names in Amazonian literature in the 20th century. Born on June 20, 1926, in Belém, he dedicated his life to literary production and the formation of readers. He served as director of the Casa da Linguagem from 1991 to 2002, alongside writer Maria Lúcia Medeiros, promoting projects to encourage reading and writing.
