On the banks of the Tapajós River, Santarém advances with state investments in essential areas for the population

Health, infrastructure, and security are among the main investments of the Government of Pará in the municipality of Santarém, in the West region, which completes 364 years of foundation this Sunday (22). "We can see improvements and advances in various areas. Paved roads and streets, investments in health, not to mention greater security as well, with more vehicles and police present on the streets," highlights university student Bárbara Canuto, 19 years old.

The decentralization of medium and high complexity health services is part of the continuous advances implemented by the State Executive since the beginning of the current administration in 2019.

Kilometers of paved roads

The Regional Hospital of Baixo Amazonas Dr. Waldemar Penna (HRBA) is an example of the strong presence of the state government in the municipality, which has more than 330,000 inhabitants. The unit received almost 1,500 new acquisitions from the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), including equipment, devices, furniture, and other essential apparatus for the excellence of the service provided. The state government also invested in expanding beds. There are 10 new neonatal Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, 10 adult ICU beds, 10 high-risk obstetrics beds, and 10 surgical beds.

Polyclinic works advance in the municipality's headquarters

"The commitment of HRBA is to offer excellent health assistance to the people of Santarém and users from other municipalities in the west of the state. And this is only possible thanks to the improvements and investments of the Government of Pará in our unit, expanding, modernizing, and improving our service more and more. The ones who benefit from this are our patients, who receive quality service, with state-of-the-art structure and equipment," emphasizes the general director of HRBA, Matheus Coutinho. In September 2024, Governor Helder Barbalho announced the expansion and modernization project for the hospital.

Convention Center: space equipped to host large events

Culture and tourism - Among the main works developed by the State Department of Public Works (Seop) since 2019 are the construction of the Sebastião Tapajós Convention Center, the Sports Gym, the Saubal Hill Lookout, and more than 70 kilometers of paving works under the "Asphalt Throughout Pará" Program, duplication of Cuiabá Avenue, and paving of Dom Frederico Costa Avenue.

“And we will also deliver the reconstruction of the (Stadium) Colosso do Tapajós and three important legacies in health: the Polyclinic, the Maternal and Child Hospital, and the expansion of the Regional Hospital of Baixo Amazonas. These are works that improve the daily lives of the people of Santarém and of this important region of Pará,” guarantees the State Secretary of Public Works, Ruy Cabral.

The Santana do Tapará Hydroport Terminal, a port district of the municipality, and the Santarém Passenger and Cargo Hydroport Terminal “Joaquim da Costa Pereira” were delivered in 2021 and 2022, respectively, by the Pará Ports and Waterways Company (CPH). These historic works benefit about 1 million inhabitants in several municipalities in the Baixo Amazonas Integration Region.

Transport infrastructure expanded with two hydroport terminals

The PA-370 highway, with a length of 150 kilometers, and the already duplicated Fernando Guilhon Avenue were also included in the paving services by the State Department of Infrastructure and Logistics (Seinfra).

Public security – In 2021, the State Department of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup) delivered the Fixed Base of Graesp (Aerial Security Group) and a 150Hp boat for the Civil Police in the municipality.

More security agents on the streets

In 2022, the Integrated Operations Center (NIOp) and a boat for the Military Police were delivered, and the "Pro-Woman Pará" program was launched, with the reinforcement of a pink vehicle to combat violence against the female population. Among the investments made in 2023 and 2024 are the delivery of eight security totems and 50 bulletproof vests to the traffic agency of Santarém.
