Government of Pará launches Brazil's 1st public Summer Camp
The leisure area of the City Park will be open starting June 28, with free activities for all ages; the program includes sports, culture, and social services

The Government of Pará announced this Tuesday (17) the launch of Brazil's 1st public Summer Camp, aimed at children, teenagers, and the elderly. The initiative will take place in the leisure area of the City Park, which will be open to the public on June 28, with an extensive and free program that includes cultural and sports activities. The space is one of the main legacies that the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30) will leave for Belém.
The initiative is coordinated by the Secretary of Sports and Leisure (Seel), responsible for mobilizing specialized teams to offer classes, workshops, and sports events. A total of ten sports modalities will be offered, with groups divided by age range. Children and teenagers aged 4 to 16 will enjoy a diverse agenda, while people over 60 will have an adapted program, with special support.

“The State Government wants to ensure that the local population can enjoy the park's facilities. In addition, the summer camp will feature social programs from the City Hall of Belém, expanding the range of services and ensuring integration between public agencies in actions aimed at the well-being of citizens,” said Governor Helder Barbalho.

“It will be an opportunity for the people of Belém and visitors to see what is completed in the public facility, the main venue for the COP30 debates. Before it is officially handed over to the UN [United Nations] on August 1, we will offer the community an urban park with an intense program of leisure and sports, promoting healthy and democratic use of this new space,” he added.
During the month of July, the State Secretary of Culture (Secult) will also promote a wide cultural program, with theatrical performances, concerts, storytelling, clowning, hip hop battles, and capoeira circles.

The State's Vice Governor, Hana Ghassan, reiterated that the City Park is a family-friendly environment, ready to welcome the people of Pará and highlighted that the facilities are operational. “It is an excellent space for practicing sports, playing, and enjoying moments with family.”

Expectations among the population
The largest summer camp in Brazil generates expectations among families in Belém. Andreia Nóbrega, grandmother of artistic gymnast Ana Clara, 10 years old, celebrated the opportunity for her granddaughter to participate in sports activities during the holidays. Due to training, the athlete usually does not travel during the school vacation period.
“It will be great for everyone. She loves sports, and I am sure she will enjoy it a lot. Staying at home doing nothing, especially for an active child, is not good. This space will allow her to have fun and keep moving even during the holidays,” she stated.
Andreia also praised the park's structure. “Everything is very beautiful, well organized. There is even space for shows. You can see the attention to detail. It is truly wonderful, a place to bring the whole family.”

How to participate
Registration for the summer camp is free and can be done in person at the City Park administration or online by filling out the form available at the link. The program will take place from Monday to Friday, from 8 AM to 10 PM. On weekends, the leisure area will be open to the public without the need for registration.
