Master Damasceno brings to the Arraial de Todos os Santos the richness of the Marajoara traditions he has represented for half a century

Master Damasceno, who has dedicated over five decades to valuing the traditional manifestations of the Marajó archipelago in the state of Pará, is one of the attractions this Sunday, 15, at the Arraial de Todos os Santos in Belém, starting at 6 PM, at the headquarters of the Cultural Foundation of Pará (FCP), in the Centur building. Admission is free.

The show by Master Damasceno is part of the June festivities program promoted by the FCP until June 29. This Sunday, there will also be a presentation of masked ox, toadas, a folkloric group, and June birds on the stage of the Margarida Schivasappa theater.

The Master - Damasceno lost his sight at the age of 19 in a work accident. Since then, he has reinvented his life through art, becoming a reference in carimbó, toadas, oral poetry, and the creation of the Búfalo-Bumbá de Salvaterra — a June manifestation that blends popular theater, quilombola culture, and elements of the Amazonian nature. With over 400 original compositions and six recorded albums, he is now a symbol of resistance and the cultural strength of Northern Brazil. Master Damasceno will also be one of the honorees at the 28th Pan-Amazonian Book and Multivoices Fair, which will take place next August.

Pipoquinhas na Roça, 2024 Mini Champion, revisits the theme that made it famous last year with the Monster of the Sertão

2024 Mini Champion Quadrilha defends the title this Sunday

Also at the FCP headquarters, it is possible to watch the presentations of the XXI State Competition of June Quadrilhas. This Sunday, 15, nine quadrilhas participate in the celebration, including the current champion in the mini category, "Pipoquinhas na Roça," from the Guamá neighborhood in Belém.

In 2024, the mini quadrilha won first place in the category with the theme "José Borges and the Monster of the Sertão." This year, the group will present the theme "The Monster of the Sertão," honoring the popular artist J. Borges, known for his woodcuts that depict everyday life and sertaneja culture.

The quadrilhas are one of the highlights of the popular culture festival at Centur, with the choreographic vibrancy of youth

The presentation of June quadrilhas starts at 6 PM. The first to perform will be the mini quadrilha "Flor de Algodão" (Abaetetuba), followed by "Romeiros Juninos" (Soure) and "Pipoquinhas na Roça" (Belém).
