Public school students from Pará win medals at the 2024 Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad
Initiatives to value education and encourage study ensure the prominence of students from Pará in a national competition

The continuous investment of the Government of Pará in education has directly reflected in the results achieved by students from the state public school system, who have been standing out in national competitions. An example of this progress was the participation of students from Pará in the 19th edition of the Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad for Public Schools (OBMEP) 2024, who won gold, silver, and honorable mention medals.

Among the highlights, students from the Fernando Ferrari State School in Marituba, in the Metropolitan Region of Belém, and from the Maria Alice Carvalho State School in the municipality of Quatipuru, in the Caeté River region, secured gold medals in the competition.
In Belém, students from the Professor Temístocles de Araújo Full-Time State School also achieved excellent performance. One of them was Ruan Pablo Morais, a 7th-grade student, who won a gold medal in the regional stage and a silver medal in the national stage. "The preparation was intense. I trained my logical reasoning a lot and followed the entire study schedule. This achievement was very rewarding," said the student.
Another highlight was Joan dos Santos Brasil, who received an honorable mention and emphasized the importance of the achievement. "Receiving the honorable mention means that my efforts are paying off. I intend to continue dedicating myself to achieve even more," he stated.
Mathematics teacher Sayuri Tsuchiya, who was also awarded, highlighted the role of school planning for the good performance of students. "The mobilization of students was done through exercises in the classroom and targeted planning. I believe these results will inspire even more students in the upcoming editions," she stated.
The school principal, Tarcia Schalcher, celebrated the result and made a point of congratulating the efforts of the educators. "It is a significant achievement. The teachers always encourage students to participate in national exams. I am very proud of the work done by everyone," she emphasized.
