Jean Bitar Hospital (HJB) has an improvement system for ICU assistance
The Patient Quality and Safety Center of the hospital focuses on process improvement through indicator management

Jean Bitar Hospital (HJB), in Belém, offers reference services of medium and high complexity, focusing on a culture of safety and improvement of the Quality Management System. Therefore, in its Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the unit seeks to prevent, detect, and respond to incidents and adverse events, aiming for patient safety, in accordance with legislation RDC 36/2013, with registration in the Epimed system, a patient safety monitor, under the consultancy of Mais IBSP (Brazilian Institute of Patient Safety).
Currently, the hospital unit has 70 beds, including 40 surgical beds, 20 clinical beds, and 10 ICU beds for adults. These beds are designated for the specialties of rheumatology, internal medicine, endocrinology, pneumonia, geriatrics, mastology, and general surgery.

The hospital also receives, among the ICU beds, clinical and surgical patients, some with critical cases that require greater care with qualified human resources and increased attention.
For the coordinator of the Patient Quality and Safety Center (NQSP), Érica Borges, the consultancy from Mais IBSP enables process improvement through managed indicators. "The indicators allow us to plan improvement actions with greater safety for our patients admitted to the ICU of HJB, through the engagement of professionals and the involvement of senior management," said the nurse.

For the ICU coordinator, Thiago Ribeiro, the goal is to strengthen patient safety by conducting a thorough analysis of care processes, identifying hidden and complex stages related to critical care, risk management, and safety. "Today, the ICU of Jean Bitar Hospital has a structured flow for incident evaluation, a defined methodology for classification, the use of care tools, periodic training of teams, and greater accountability of professionals involved in assistance."
Benefits for the ICU:
- Reliability in data collection of indicators.
- Direction for assertive decision-making based on critical data analysis.
- Identification of hidden and complex phases of the care process.
- Robustness in the analysis and handling of adverse events.
- Optimization of results with rational use of resources.
Approval - Patient Antônio Braz, 66 years old, retired, from the city of Belém, was in the ICU of HJB due to an intestinal infection, but has already improved and is waiting in the ward for his discharge. "I was transferred from an Emergency Care Unit to the ICU, but I improved quickly because I was well treated, the team gave me peace of mind, and I had all the support I needed and I am already waiting to go back home," said the retired man, satisfied with the care.
Service - Jean Bitar Hospital is part of the public health network of the Government of Pará and provides outpatient and hospital assistance in medium and high complexity, catering to transgender patients, as well as clinical and surgical cases related to metabolic and gastrointestinal diseases.
The HJB is located at Rua Cônego Jerônimo Pimentel, nº 543, in the Umarizal neighborhood, in Belém.
