Setur and Airbnb hold workshop for those who want to offer accommodation for COP30
Event guided potential hosts on short-term rental of properties and sought to expand accommodation offerings in Belém for the climate conference

In preparation for the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), which will take place in Belém in November, the Tourism Secretariat of Pará (Setur) and the Airbnb platform held a free workshop on Tuesday (10) aimed at those who wish to offer properties and short-term rentals during the event. The initiative, a result of a joint effort between Setur, Airbnb, and the Commercial Association of Pará (ACP), is part of a collective effort to prepare Belém for the expected high tourist demand, generating income opportunities and promoting a more inclusive and sustainable tourism model.
At the workshop titled "Towards COP30! Be an Airbnb host!", the functioning of the platform was presented to those interested in making properties available for accommodation and an overview of the possibilities for renting houses and apartments for short stays in the region. More than just increasing the number of properties available on the platform during COP30, considering the estimate of 50,000 visitors to Belém during the United Nations (UN) Conference, the event aimed to consolidate a culture of qualified hospitality among Pará hosts.

Administrator Luís Renato Malcher, a representative of Airbnb and a specialist in Strategic Management, presented a practical tutorial, guiding participants on how to register properties on the platform, optimize listings, strategies to increase property visibility, and best practices for hospitality and safety. “I showed the essential steps for a successful procedure on the platform: what Airbnb is and short-term rental, how to register, types of accommodation, safety and reliability of the platform, market research, space preparation, photos, and settings,” he detailed. Guidance was also provided on the host support channel and the rules and best practices for welcoming visitors with quality and safety.
Airbnb is present in over 220 countries and regions, with more than five million hosts, eight million listings, and two billion check-ins since its inception. According to Malcher, 61% of accommodations are families gathered in the same location, and more than 80% are group trips, which reinforces Pará's potential to host different profiles of visitors.

Wanderson Marques, a property owner in Belém and Ananindeua, shared his expectations. “I am starting rentals now as a way to earn extra income during COP30. The intention here was to clarify initial doubts about the platform, learn from those who already have experience on Airbnb, and contribute to the success of the Conference by adding extra income.”
“Our main focus was to make the owner learn the step-by-step process of how to list their property on the platform and how to make it more attractive, to take advantage of opportunities before, during, and after COP30,” highlighted the Secretary of Tourism of Pará, Eduardo Costa.

According to the head of Setur, COP30 has already boosted the local economy, in a new cycle of prosperity. “We have seen an increase in the number of tourists and in hotel occupancy rates. People are curious to know the gateway to the Amazon and the capital of COP. We want everyone to have fantastic cultural and gastronomic experiences and leave here speaking well of Belém. The people of Pará are welcoming and know how to receive. We need to learn professionally how to be excellent hosts and make the most of all available resources to offer a worthy reception,” he concluded.
