Outpatient Clinic of the Hospital de Clínicas celebrates one year with advancements in care for SUS users
The new Medical Outpatient Service of the Hospital de Clínicas has already served more than 64,000 patients in the specialties of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, psychology, and social assistance

One year ago, the new building of the Medical Outpatient Service of the Hospital de Clínicas Gaspar Vianna (HC) in Belém was inaugurated with the aim of improving care for SUS users. A total of 64,565 appointments have already been made, and since then, thousands of patients have benefited from a more modern, accessible, and integrated structure.

The new building represented an advancement in patient care for both the capital and the countryside. In one year, HC has increased the number of consultations, reduced waiting times, and provided more comfort for users and professionals.
Among the main improvements are the enhancement of the environment, the expansion of offices and service counters, and the creation of specific spaces for diverse audiences, such as the kids' area and the dining room. "For both our team and the users, the environment has improved significantly. We have larger offices with more light, restrooms for the public and professionals, and more comfort overall," emphasized the outpatient coordinator, nurse Mônica Rebelo.
In addition to the physical structure, the outpatient clinic has also introduced new services, such as the Nephrology and Mental Health programs, both with a multidisciplinary approach. "These programs provide comprehensive support to users, with medical, psychological, dental, nursing, and social service care, including guidance on TFD, BPC, and other social issues," she added.

Reference in cardiology, nephrology, and mental health — The mental health area has gained an exclusive and welcoming space where patients and their families are supported in an individualized and continuous manner. "Our audience often goes through very difficult situations. When they arrive here, they need to be heard and cared for with attention. Our commitment is to ensure this humanized care," highlighted Mônica.
Tatiana Aquino, a nurse with training in obstetrics and cardiology, explains the functioning of the elective pre-operative cardiac surgery program. "Ninety percent of our patients come from the countryside, sometimes even from another state. We attend three times a week, with a multidisciplinary team composed of a nurse, psychologist, social worker, dentist, and pharmacist. We ensure that they undergo all pre-operative exams and are prepared for surgery according to the hospital's availability," detailed the nurse.

Rosana Carvalho, a nurse specializing in nephrology, highlights the benefits of the new space for the Renal Health Care Program. "This new building was essential to expand care for patients with renal function loss, a silent disease that affects people, especially those with low income. The larger space allowed for the installation of an essential program to delay the progression of the disease and prepare the patient for therapy, such as fistula and kidney transplant," explained the professional.
Welcoming - Among the users, mothers accompanying their children also feel the difference. Débora Amaral, 20, has been accompanying her daughter Sara Maitê since the diagnosis of heart disease during pregnancy. For her, the children's area of the outpatient clinic makes a difference in the routine of consultations. "The children wait there, distracted, and this helps with the anxiety of waiting," she emphasizes.

For Leandra de Brito, 25, from the countryside of Augusto Corrêa, who accompanies her son João Miguel, the comfort provided and the treatment by the multiprofessional teams are excellent. "Before, in the old building, it was very hot and the wait was longer. Now it is much better, with more comfort. My son's treatment is excellent; I have nothing to complain about," she states.
Care — Currently, patients arrive at the outpatient clinic through different entry points. "By referral after hospitalizations in the clinics and ICUs of the hospital; through the Support Service for Screening (SAT), when there is no need for emergency care; through psychiatry, via technical referral. It is also possible to schedule appointments by phone or WhatsApp, facilitating user access," explained Mónica Rebelo.
Service: The new Medical Outpatient Service of HC operates at Av. Rômulo Maiorana, 1717, between the streets Angustura and Barão do Triunfo, from 7 am to 7 pm.
