Integrating a new circulation corridor between Avenues Centenário and Augusto Montenegro, Rua das Rosas, in the Benguí neighborhood, contributes to the flow of traffic in one of the main regions of Belém. Requalified as part of the macro-drainage works of the Benguí and Marambaia Channels, the street is part of the set of improvements in infrastructure and urban mobility that the city receives as a legacy of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, COP30, which will be held in November this year.

Rua das Rosas will be an important connection route with easy access via Avenida dos Planetas, around the Benguí and Marambaia Channels, which will relieve traffic on Avenida Mangueirão during major events at the Estádio Olímpico do Pará. “It is an important work in the context of mobility in the Benguí and Mangueirão neighborhoods, improving traffic flow and providing more fluidity for private vehicles and those providing public services, such as ambulances, police vehicles, garbage collection trucks, and app-based cars and motorcycles. It will ensure a better quality of life for the people living in that region,” says the Secretary of Public Works, Ruy Cabral.

Having lived on Rua das Rosas for 34 years, housewife Maria Gonzaga celebrated the transformation of the street, which was previously made up of cobblestones in one section and mud and weeds in another. “For me, what has been done here is a reason for joy, to be thankful for a home, a dignified street. I might not have been alive to see this, but the miracle is happening. It was very difficult for a car to come in here to pick up an elderly person or a person with a disability. Now we can receive any vehicle, Uber, the ambulance. Gratitude to the workers and the state government for this work,” she highlighted.

Benguí and Marambaia Channels – The works on the channels, which include the adaptation of Rua das Rosas, reached 80% completion this week. The project will benefit about 200,000 residents with the rectification of nearly 1.9 kilometers of the channels, in addition to infrastructure with the implementation of water supply networks, sewage disposal, drainage, and a Sewage Pumping Station. The investment is made by the Government of Pará, in partnership with the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) and the Federal Government.

Historic investment – Through the largest macro-drainage program in the history of Belém, the Government of Pará is advancing in a series of urban requalification works on the channels of the capital, aiming to prevent flooding and improve the quality of life for more than 500,000 people. The works include the Tucunduba, Murutucu, Tamandaré, and Una Basins. Since 2019, the state has already invested in the requalification of 17 channels in Belém, of which 13 are part of the legacy of COP30.
