Government of Pará presents COP 30 works to the Federal Senate committee
Senators came to Pará to monitor the progress of the main preparatory works for the United Nations Conference on Climate Change

Governor Helder Barbalho received, in Belém, on Thursday (5), a committee of senators who came to Pará to monitor the progress of the main preparatory works for the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 30), which will be held from November 10 to 21, 2025.
The official visit included the presence of Senators Fabiano Contarato (PT-ES), president of the Senate Environment Committee, and Beto Faro (PT-PA). The parliamentarians were accompanied by members of the State Committee for COP 30, including the deputy secretary of the State Secretariat of Culture (Secult), Bruno Chagas, and the coordinator of the COP 30 Nucleus, Brenda Maradei.
The first stop was at Porto Futuro II, which is already 88% completed. The space will consolidate as a hub for the development of bioeconomy and culture in Pará, with a direct impact on tourism and the generation of sustainable opportunities for the population. The location will house the Amazon Bioeconomy and Innovation Center, the Museum of the Amazons, and a unit of Caixa Cultural. There will be a central square with leisure areas, a gastronomic space, and environments integrated into the urban landscape of the capital's waterfront.

Governor Helder Barbalho commented on the strategic role of Porto Futuro II in COP 30 and the legacy for the city with the Bioeconomy Park.
“The Bioeconomy Park brings an immersion to effectively understand the State's bioeconomy strategy, as well as a space to encourage companies that operate in the bioeconomy sector to have an adapted and suitable environment to settle here,” said the head of the executive.
Regarding the visit of the Senate Environment Committee, the governor stated that it is an important moment to present the progress of the ongoing structural works in the capital, in preparation for COP 30.
“This visit is very symbolic for us, on World Environment Day, to be able to receive the Senate Committee. It is very important that they can come here to see in person what is being done and to carry the message to the Senate of the Republic about the advances, the evolutions, and, above all, the certainty that what is planned is being carried out,” he said.
“We will certainly hold the most extraordinary COP, which is the reconciliation of investments that bring an urban legacy to Belém, but on the other hand, [also] the guarantee that the choice to hold it in the Amazon carries a symbolism and the importance of a great call to the world, so that the world understands the need to act in response to climate urgencies and environmental changes,” added Helder Barbalho.

The group proceeded to the City Park, one of the important legacies of COP 30 in Belém. With 86% of the COP Stage works already completed, the complex of over 500 thousand square meters will be the main stage of the international event and will become one of the largest urban public spaces in the Northern Region.
The City Park will feature extensive green areas, water mirrors, bike paths, walking tracks, sports equipment, social areas, a food court, and infrastructure for cultural and educational events.
Senator Fabiano Contarato commented on the environmental prominence of Pará and Brazil in hosting COP 30.
“I am very positively impressed. I think it is a unique moment for the world to look at how Brazil is, what the reality of Brazil is, because we have a commitment to environmental preservation, but we must also give dignity to the population, especially to those who need it most. Because one thing is when you make a theoretical description, another thing is when you look into people's eyes and see their reality, and it is the State's role to provide dignity to the population, especially to those who need it most. I am very happy; this is my first time here in Belém, and I want to send a warm hug to all the people of the State of Pará and congratulations on the event, congratulations to the governor and his entire team,”
The positive impact of the work not only enchants visitors but also those who are daily involved in the construction of the City Park. Agronomist Maynara Gomes, an Environmental Analyst at the City Park, emphasizes the importance of the experience and job opportunity.
“I started working on the construction recently. As soon as I learned about the vacancy, I applied to contribute to this space, which will promote a great boost for the State, highlighting our work in the environmental, socioeconomic, and job generation areas. I believe this will have a significant impact on my professional journey as well,” she states.
The visit reinforces the articulation between state and federal powers to ensure the full realization of COP 30 in Belém, with investments that will leave a legacy of sustainable development, social inclusion, and quality infrastructure for the people of Pará.
