Clinical deterioration scales are standardized tools that assist in the early identification of signs of worsening health conditions in patients. At the Regional Public Hospital of Marajó (HRPM), in Breves, the Nursing team plays a fundamental role in this process, continuously monitoring vital signs using these scales to anticipate possible complications and ensure a quick and effective intervention.

Jader Aguiar, Nursing coordinator of the Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at HRPM, explains that the unit has adopted two scales for monitoring clinical deterioration in patients: the MEWS scale, aimed at the early detection of signs of worsening in hospitalized patients through the analysis of vital signs; and the PEWS scale, specific for the pediatric population, which allows for the identification of subtle clinical changes in children, promoting a quick and safe response from the care team.

“This verification is essential for the safety of users, allowing for early detection of signs of clinical deterioration and sepsis, thus reducing the risk of serious events, deaths, and improving therapeutic effectiveness,” emphasized the manager.

Recognition - In the month dedicated to honoring the Nursing category, last May, the unit's management promoted Nursing Week, with the theme “Physical and mental health of nursing professionals.” The program included health education actions, interactive dynamics, and tributes, reaching about 290 professionals, including nurses, technicians, and nursing assistants.

“The event highlighted the importance of working on mental health and the protagonism of nursing in the hospital environment,” reinforced Jader Aguiar.

Approval - João Batista da Silva, 70 years old, has been a hemodialysis patient at HRPM since 2023, praising the care of the nursing team, highlighting the dedication, qualification, and humanization of the professionals. “They are very dedicated, they treat us very well. Just gratitude,” pointed out the elderly man.

The Regional Public Hospital of Marajó is a health unit of the State Government, managed by the National Institute of Social and Human Development (INDSH), in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa). The unit provides medium and high complexity assistance to the population of the southwestern region of the Marajó archipelago and is located at Avenida Rio Branco, No. 1,266, in the center of Breves.
