Remo and Paysandu mascots unite at Galileu Hospital to save lives
Blood donation campaign collects 103 bags and reinforces that, off the field, everyone plays on the same team: the team of solidarity.

The Galileu State Public Hospital (HPEG), in Greater Belém, experienced a classic of solidarity. The mascots of the Clube do Remo and Paysandu united off the field and embraced a single cause that is worth more than any victory: encouraging blood donation and helping to save lives.
With great enthusiasm, the charismatic mascots brought joy and energy to the blood donation campaign held by the unit, in partnership with the Hemotherapy and Hematology Center of Pará Foundation (Hemopa). The symbolic gesture of the two biggest rivals in Pará football showed that when it comes to solidarity, there is no division: everyone plays on the same team.
For Danielly Costa, one of the campaign organizers, donating blood is a simple gesture but with a profound impact. "Seeing the mascots of Remo and Paysandu side by side supporting this cause conveys a powerful message: outside the four lines, we are all part of the same team. This act of solidarity makes a difference in the lives of those who need it most," she stated.
The initiative was promoted by the hospital's Transfusion Agency, in conjunction with the Intra-Hospital Commission for Organ and Tissue Donation for Transplantation (CIHDOTT) and the Transfusion Committee. It also mobilized collaborators, companions, and members of the volunteer network, reinforcing the importance of regular blood donation.
According to nurse Amanda Bezerra, the action, in addition to contributing to keeping the stocks safe and ensuring care for patients who need transfusions, also plays an educational role. "More than a one-time campaign, it is a movement that strengthens the culture of donation, whether of blood, organs, or tissues. This gesture directly impacts the lives of many patients," she highlighted.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a single blood donation can save up to four lives. The donated blood is separated into essential components — red blood cells, plasma, platelets, and cryoprecipitate — used in the treatment of various health conditions.
Donating is an act of love
Galileu Hospital has an active network of blood donor volunteers, such as nurse Vanessa Silva, a frequent donor and advocate for the cause.
"With each donation, I am sure that I am helping to save up to four lives. This campaign is essential, not only for hospitalized patients but for the entire hospital network. Donating is an act of love that makes all the difference," she declared.
The emotion also marked the first blood donation of Cildiane Costa da Silva, an educator, who, despite wanting to participate for a long time, only now found the courage to take the step.
"My mother is hospitalized here at Galileu and, seeing up close how much she needs care, I realized the importance of helping those who are also going through difficult times," she shared, emotionally.
According to biomedical Juliana Lima, a member of the campaign organization, the collection exceeded expectations.
"Galileu requests an average of 25 bags of blood per month from Hemopa. With the collection of over 100 bags in this campaign, we were able to meet our demand and also contribute to other hospitals in the public network," she explained.
Transfusion Agency
The Transfusion Agency of Galileu Hospital, managed by the Institute of Social and Environmental Health of the Amazon (ISSAA), in partnership with the Pará State Department of Public Health (Sespa), is essential for maintaining the assistance provided by the unit, especially in medium and high complexity surgeries.
The sector is responsible for the entire transfusion process: from receiving the blood components to the strict quality control, ensuring that patients receive the necessary support safely and at the right time.
