A Junino Birds' Flight kicked off the official program of the Arraial de Todos os Santos 2025, on the afternoon of this Saturday, the 31st, at the Casa das Artes building in Belém. Promoted by the Government of Pará, through the Cultural Foundation of Pará (FCP), the calendar for the Arraial de Todos os Santos 2025 runs until June 29.

The Flight is the gathering of groups of Junino birds' cordões. A tradition that brings together people of different ages in a mix of dance and popular theater. The goal is to portray the enchantments and traditional, peripheral, and Amazonian identities.

The celebration began at 3:30 PM, and what was supposed to be a warm-up for the program turned into a party when the Uirapuru da Liberdade group announced the arrival of Mestra Iracema, the oldest guardian of Junino Birds in Pará and a master of Popular Culture declared by the Ministry of Culture.

Mestra Iracema Oliveira: "It is a unique moment, I am very satisfied to be here for another year"

"It is a gratifying moment for us, guardians, as it is when everyone gathers, since each one comes from a different place. It is a unique moment when we are all together. I am very satisfied to be here for another year," declared master Iracema Oliveira.

Iracema Oliveira is responsible for organizing the groups and leading the procession around the Casa das Artes. Upon returning to the building, on stage, the master and the president of the Cultural Foundation of Pará, Thiago Miranda, officially opened the Arraial.

President of the Cultural Foundation of Pará, Thiago Miranda: "We are happy to ensure such significant cultural preservation"

"We know the importance of keeping alive the tradition of this cabocla opera that is the cordões of Junino birds. That is why the Flight annually opens the state’s arraial program. We are happy to ensure this cultural preservation that is so significant for the people of Pará," declared Thiago Miranda.

At the Casa das Artes, the groups presented performances that mix birds, bird carriers, fairies, and hunters – the latter, following tradition, perform the "hunt" by dancing to the tunes sung by the guardians.

The director of cultural interactions at FCP, Cláudia Pinheiro, highlighted the dedication of the members of the groups that performed this year.

"It is a work of dedication. We have great respect for the procession, as the birds represent the oldest cultural manifestation we preserve. The guardians, with over 60 years of tradition, work with popular culture in its purest form, and their work deserves all our recognition," emphasizes the director of cultural interactions at FCP, Cláudia Pinheiro.

The program of the Arraial de Todos os Santos 2025 continues next weekend, with the presentation of the Auto Junino, at the Núcleo Curro Velho, on June 6, 7, and 8. On June 13, daily festivities will begin at the FCP headquarters, in the Centur building. The celebration will conclude on June 29 with the awarding of the winning quadrilhas of the 21st edition of the State Quadrilha Contest.
