An environmental inspection operation coordinated by the State Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainability (Semas), in partnership with the Municipal Secretariat for the Environment (Semma) of Juruti, Environmental Police, Military Police, and Base Candiru, concluded on Wednesday (28), resulting in the seizure of a large quantity of logs and the suspension of irregular activities in the management project of the Community Association ACORJUVE, located in the PAE Juruti Velho region.

The action was triggered after reports from the population about possible irregularities in the activities of the forest management project. During the inspection, the teams identified environmental violations that resulted in the issuance of three infraction notices, in addition to the seizure of wood and a barge.

In total, 4,465.0125 cubic meters of logs were seized, in addition to a barge used for transporting the material. The fines imposed amount to R$ 565,720.00.

Furthermore, a cease-and-desist order was issued, temporarily suspending activities in the inspected area until the situation is regularized.

The director of environmental inspection at Semas, Tobias Brancher, highlighted the role of the secretariat in the operation. “Our role is to ensure that any forest management activity is conducted within legality, respecting the technical parameters and the conditions established in the license,” he stated.

In addition to the seizures, the material was placed under a deposit order, which prevents transportation and commercialization until the judgment of the merits of the administrative infraction process by Semas.

The embargo of the affected area, according to Tobias Brancher, aims to prevent the continuation of activities until all necessary measures for regularization are taken.

The City Hall of Juruti, through Semma, emphasized that it will continue to work jointly with state and federal agencies to ensure that the projects developed in the region are aligned with environmental conservation and bring real benefits to local communities.
