In a historic milestone for health in the Xingu region, the Regional Public Hospital of Transamazônica (HRPT) performed its first organ donation on Thursday (29/05). More than a medical procedure, the initiative symbolizes an act of love and solidarity, capable of renewing hopes and saving lives, reinforcing the importance of organ donation to transform the fate of many people.

Leonardo Rodrigues, technical director of HRPT, highlighted the relevance of the action for local public health. “We followed all necessary protocols to carry out the organ donation. This procedure at the Regional Hospital of Transamazônica represents a historic milestone for health in the region. Therefore, it is essential that everyone talks to their families and expresses this desire. Even in a moment of pain and mourning, the family can decide to keep the memory of their loved one alive,” he emphasized.

The action was coordinated by the team from the State Transplant Center (CET), linked to the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), responsible for organizing and conducting donation protocols in Pará. CET has intensified actions to raise public awareness, train health professionals, and establish partnerships with hospitals capable of integrating this network.

Alfredo Abud, coordinator of CET, also emphasized the importance of this moment. “For organ donation to happen, a complex process is necessary, with a dynamic and a gigantic operational structure. The Regional Hospital of Transamazônica is fully capable of participating in this process at the state level, and today we are kicking off with the first organ and tissue donation in the history of Transamazônica, thus marking a milestone for the entire Xingu region,” he explained.

According to Abud, the work benefits not only patients from the Pará territory but also people from other regions, as the donated organs are allocated to the single waiting list.

The initiative began with the training of the hospital's clinical staff to identify and screen potential donors. The project was developed by Sespa, CET, and HRPT, which has the appropriate structure and logistics for this type of procedure.

“It is important to highlight all the support from the State Government, which facilitates the air transport of the team from Belém to Altamira, ensuring the proper handling of the organs and, subsequently, the performance of the transplants. It is a joint effort that saves lives and further strengthens the health system of our state,” added the CET coordinator.

As a way to honor the donor's generosity and the family's gesture of empathy, the hospital professionals formed a human corridor. The moment, symbolic and moving, brought together the involved team to pay tribute to the donor's passage, with applause and respect. The tribute reinforced the greatness of an act that transforms the pain of loss into hope for other families.
