The Vice Governor of Pará, Hana Ghassan, participated on the morning of this Wednesday (28) in the “Meeting of Industry, Parliament, and Government of Pará together for COP 30,” which took place at the Federation of Industries of the State of Pará (FIEPA), to reaffirm the State's commitment to sustainable development in line with global agendas for environmental protection and preparation for the 30th World Climate Conference - COP 30, which will take place in November this year in the capital of Pará, Belém.

It is also important to highlight that the meeting aims to strengthen the productive sector in the face of socio-environmental challenges, as well as to stimulate business practices that align with economic growth and the protection of the Amazon biome. The program ‘Amazon Governance for Combating Deforestation and Illegal Burning’ establishes zero tolerance against deforestation and illegal burning in Pará.

In her speech, Hana emphasizes that dialogue is essential for building a sustainable future. “I want to congratulate FIEPA for organizing and leading the COP + journey, which is very important for us to have this joint dialogue. We are living in a challenging moment, but extremely promising. And this is driven by this set of actions that strengthens our economic segments more and more each day. Therefore, I congratulate FIEPA, and we are experiencing this moment in the state of Pará, a moment of construction. This event is characterized precisely by dialogue and the construction of a new Pará that we want, one that has sustainable economic development,” stated the Vice Governor of the State.

During the program, FIEPA presented the Vice Governor with a tribute in recognition of her strategic role in preparing Pará for COP 30, and in developing the productive sector of the state in favor of social inclusion, environmental protection, and integrated public policies.

The president of FIEPA, Alex Carvalho, provided an overview of the “COP + Journey” project and the opportunity to strengthen collaboration with the public authorities.

“It is a moment when we present to the constituted powers of our state the project “COP + Journey,” which was born a year ago when we were at the 16th edition of FIEPA, launching a movement aimed at COP30, but beyond COP30, thinking about sustainable development that could include in a balanced way the roles of social development, economic competitiveness, and aligning with the principles and needs of environmental sustainability. So, it is a very important moment. Not by chance, we brought this moment to the week that celebrates ‘Industry Week,’ and this shows the relevance that the project has gained,” pointed out the head of FIEPA.

At the event, discussions were opened for the presidents of the unions that make up the Federation (fishing, timber, forestry, graphic industries, etc.) to present their demands and contributions to building a more sustainable Pará.

The program “Amazon Governance for Combating Deforestation and Illegal Burning,” in partnership with the “COP + Journey” project, provides for zero tolerance against deforestation and illegal burning in Pará and aims to strengthen good environmental practices, as well as joint action between the productive sector, industries, and agribusinesses, and to build a new model of sustainable development for the region, as explained by the president of the Thematic Council of Legislative Affairs of FIEPA, Francisco Victer.

“We understand that, in addition to government action, and the action of non-governmental organizations, no one is better than organized society to take on the task of controlling this scourge that is uncontrolled deforestation, which bothers the whole world, and bothers us too, because we understand that only deforestation for expansion is not the best solution for development. We are here, the united industry, to work on influencing our suppliers, producers, all of us, the whole society, to understand that deforestation is not advantageous from an economic point of view,” explained Francisco Victer.

In the end, Vice Governor Hana Ghassan made her remarks and reaffirmed the commitment to walk together in search of solutions.

“I would like to thank you for this moment, reaffirm our commitment to try, more and more, to be close to this segment, and for us to walk towards resolving the problems. It was a morning of much learning. So, I thank this opportunity to hear some demands that are within the competence of the State Government. We will internalize and seek to move forward so that we can find joint solutions,” she concluded.
