São José Liberto hosts a floral arrangement workshop in miriti on Saturday (31).
The initiative values the work of local artisans, enhances their skills, and boosts the production of regional handicrafts, strengthening the Pará creative economy.

Support for the creative economy is essential to stimulate entrepreneurship, driving job and income generation sustainably. In this context, the São José Liberto Space (ESJL) will host another handicraft workshop next Saturday (31), using regional raw materials for the production of sustainable floral arrangements in miriti. The initiative values the work of local artisans, enhances their skills, and boosts the production of regional handicrafts, strengthening the Pará creative economy. The workshop will take place in the ESJL auditorium from 10 AM to 5 PM.
The course is supported by the Secretary of Economic Development, Mining and Energy (Sedeme) and will be conducted by the renowned artisan Josias Plácido Alcântara Silva, known as Master Pirias, who is from Abaetetuba – recognized worldwide as the capital of miriti toys, located in the Lower Tocantins region.
Known as the "Styrofoam of the Amazon" due to the lightness of its fiber, miriti is extracted from the miriti palm tree, or buriti (Mauritia flexuosa), a native species of the Amazon region that can reach up to 30 meters in height.

During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to learn and enhance traditional techniques, including handling, cutting, modeling, dyeing, assembling, and finishing floral arrangements, preserving the authenticity and cultural richness of this artisanal craft.

Entry is free, allowing visitors to explore a wide variety of regional handicrafts, including Marajoara and Tapajônica ceramics, bio-jewelry made with inputs from the rich biodiversity of the Amazon rainforest, authorial fashion items, and other products available at the Artisan House. The ESJL also houses the Coliseum of Arts amphitheater, the Fashion Space, and the Pará Gem Museum.
