During a routine patrol in the municipality of Marituba, in the Metropolitan Region of Belém, the Tactical Motorized Patrol Battalion (ROTAM) seized a long weapon after an exchange of gunfire with suspects in the early hours of last Saturday (24).

According to the Military Police, the units were patrolling the Beija-Flor neighborhood when they received a report that individuals were armed in the area. As they approached an invasion area known as Santa Clara, the officers heard gunfire and reacted to the threat.

During the confrontation, one of the suspects was shot. With him, the police found a .30 caliber Galil rifle, along with a magazine and 20 rounds of ammunition. The man was taken to the Basic Health Unit of Marituba but did not survive the injuries.

The weapon and the seized material were presented at the Civil Police Station of Marituba, where the case was registered and will be investigated.

The commander of ROTAM, Lieutenant Colonel Adriano Raiol, highlighted the importance of the action. “The quick response of our units demonstrates ROTAM's commitment to combating violent crime. The seizure of this high-caliber weapon represents more safety for the population of Marituba and the Metropolitan Region,” he stated.
