The State Department of Culture (Secult), through the Museum of Image and Sound (MIS), hosts another action of the complementary program of the exhibition “Tó Teixeira – Dive into Life and Work”. This Sunday (25), at 10:30 AM, musician and researcher Salomão Habib will participate in the chat “The Pedagogy of the Guitar in Tó Teixeira's Work” at MIS. The event is organized by Kamara Kó Gallery, with support from Rouanet Norte, sponsored by Banco da Amazônia, Banco do Brasil, Correios, and Caixa. Institutional support from the State Government.

Guitarist, composer, and self-taught teacher, Antônio Teixeira do Nascimento Filho, known as Tó Teixeira, is considered one of the pillars of 20th-century Pará music. He was also the first black musician to hold a guitar recital in Pará, overcoming social and racial barriers. His legacy has been rescued and systematized by Salomão Habib, who has dedicated decades to research and dissemination.

The chat will address a little-discussed side of the musician, his role as an educator. Besides technique, Tó employed a teaching philosophy based on rigor, sensitivity, and the appreciation of Amazonian expressions.

Salomão Habib has a deep understanding of Tó Teixeira's universe and played a fundamental role in structuring the exhibition currently open to the public, also at MIS. In the meeting, Salomão proposes a precise focus, seeking to reveal the stories that emerge from the musician's direct contact with his students, the advice given, the detailed notes, the teachings that traverse the realm of the score and enter the territory of human and artistic formation.

This chat will be a rare opportunity to access the life and work of Tó Teixeira. The activity is free and open to the public, and promises to deepen the dive that the exhibition proposes: to see and hear, but mainly to understand and feel the relevance of Tó Teixeira to the culture of Pará and to musical pedagogy in Brazil.

Meanwhile, the exhibition “Tó Teixeira: Dive into Life and Work” remains open for visitation at MIS-Pa until August 30, inviting the public to explore, through documents, images, scores, and sound recordings, the multifaceted trajectory of one of the most important Amazonian musicians.
