The management of Hospital Ophir Loyola (HOL) released a report on the advances made with structural projects in the last three months. Among the main initiatives are the hiring of doctors for assistive and support areas, the adoption of new clinical, surgical, and radiotherapeutic procedures, as well as the continuation of physical restructuring and modernization works. The strategic actions carried out include the expansion of service capacity, aiming to reduce waiting times and provide more agility in the services offered.

During this period, there was a 50.52% increase in outpatient care at the Palliative Oncology Care Center (CCPO) and a 12.08% increase in home care, benefiting people in greater vulnerability. The screening of patients outside therapeutic possibilities grew by 55.37%. Technology and efficient management have also become allies in this new cycle. With the implementation of the LILA Project, in partnership with the National Cancer Institute (Inca), more than 600 online consultations were conducted, including consultations and guidance.

In parallel, HOL reduced the unit's costs by 54.98% compared to the last quarter of 2024. "We carried out a strategic work that resulted in a significant reduction in the hospital's operational costs. And we reinvested in direct investments to strengthen assistance, through the acquisition of supplies and medications. Thus, we reaffirm our commitment to efficiency, transparency, and the quality of care offered to the population," reported the general director, Heraldo Pedreira.

One of the most demanded specialties, nephrology, began to conduct 100 more monthly consultations. Meanwhile, in hemodialysis, the outpatient service is now conducted in three shifts with interconsultation availability for 24 hours. The health unit also initiated the process of strengthening the institutional quality management system, implementing weekly tactical meetings with support coordinations to define protocols and discuss clinical cases.

Still in 2025, the work developed by the Eye Tissue Bank (BTO) allowed the waiting list to be reduced from 4 years to 5 months, according to the National Transplant System of the Ministry of Health. This advancement results from the work of the teams involved in the collection and the support of the state transplant center of Sespa. Consequently, cornea transplants at HOL increased by 58.3%.

Clinical Director of HOL, Fábio Araújo

The hospital also stands out as a hub for scientific development and professional training, promoting events and courses of high relevance. From February to April, 2,170 nursing professionals received technical and scientific training aligned with the latest health practices. “Among the highlighted actions is the Immersion Course in Neurovascular Therapy, which offers advanced updates for specialists in the field, in addition to hosting the National Masterclass on Urogenital Reconstructive Surgery to promote knowledge exchange among surgeons from all over the country,” highlighted the clinical director of HOL, Fábio Araújo.

The Radiotherapy Center has become the largest in the North

Since the operating license from the National Commission of Nuclear Energy (CNEN), the hospital has the largest Radiotherapy Center in the Northern Region, offering state-of-the-art radiotherapy techniques. “Between March and April, the Service showed significant advances in oncological care, reflecting the efforts of restructuring and expanding the installed capacity. Today, we perform stereotactic surgery through SUS, a minimally invasive procedure, without cuts, that lasts about 10 minutes, which highlights the advancement in oncological treatment in the State,” stated Fábio Araújo.

During this period, 200 patients completed external radiotherapy treatment (teletherapy), while another 220 started sessions, reducing waiting times and promoting greater speed in health care. Additionally, the hospital also performed approximately 160 brachytherapy insertions in 50 patients, reinforcing the commitment to humanized and technically qualified treatment.

With the goal of achieving full operation of the equipment and the structure dedicated to radiotherapy, management plans to increase the number of patients treated monthly in teletherapy from 70 to 240 and to triple, from 20 to 60, the monthly treatments in brachytherapy.

Advances in infrastructure - With investments from the state government, the health institution is undergoing renovation and expansion works aimed at modernizing services and ensuring more accurate diagnoses. The work of the Nuclear Medicine Service is already 85% completed and its main objective is the installation of the PET-CT, a technology that allows for more accurate diagnoses of various diseases. The Central Sterilized Material (CME), a physical space designated for the installation of autoclaves and thermal disinfectors, is already 80% completed.

The integrated hospital management system in progress allows the integration of all processes of the institution with the management of clinical, assistive, administrative, financial, and strategic information, contributing to more efficient management. “All medical offices received a computer and printer for the implementation of electronic medical records. We monitor in real-time everything that happens in the hospital,” informed the general director.

On the occasion, the management also presented the modernization projects for the Immediate Care Unit (UAI), Chemotherapy, Hemodialysis, Endoscopy, Ultrasound, Transfusion Agency, Neuroclinic, changing rooms, and other services.
