Agents of the Candiru Base execute arrest warrant and seize firearm during inspections
Actions were carried out throughout the week on vessels navigating the Amazon River
During this week, the integrated teams that make up the operational framework at the Candiru River Base, linked to the Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), carried out more actions to combat crime in the river network of Pará. On Wednesday (21) and Thursday (22), an arrest warrant issued against a man was executed and a firearm and ammunition were seized, respectively.
The Base is located at a strategic point on the Amazon River and near the municipality of Óbidos, in Lower Amazon. On Wednesday, during routine inspection on the vessel "Catamarã Rondônia", the agents checked the research systems for the open arrest warrant against a man for child support, issued by the 8th Family Court of the Court of Justice of Amazonas. The vessel was traveling from Manaus, Amazonas, to Belém. The man was taken to the River Base to be presented to the competent police authorities.
On Thursday, during the early morning, agents from the River Security Group (Gflu), along with teams from the Military Police, Civil Police, Military Fire Brigade, and Federal Revenue, during inspection and search on the vessel "F/B Santo Antônio VI", which was navigating from Juruti, Pará, to Santarém, found a .32 caliber revolver with six intact rounds of the same caliber. The weapon was likely abandoned after the holder noticed the start of the inspection.
The squad conducted searches for the possible owner, but due to the large flow of people and the environment of free circulation, identification was not completed. The weapon was seized and presented to the authorities for the continuation of the appropriate procedures.
Ualame Machado, head of Segup, assesses that the actions demonstrate the functionality of public security operations in the river network of the state. "The Candiru Base has been operational for less than a year and, with its strategic location, has been a fundamental point in combating crime in the state. Only in 2025, up to April, more than 300 approaches were carried out and over 500 kg of drugs were seized and examined. It is also important to highlight that this May, we reached 65% completion of the Lower Tocantins River Base, which will be installed in the rural area of Abaetetuba and will reinforce policing at the entrance of the Tocantins River," he concluded.
