Sustainability, debates on climate change, and student protagonism marked the morning of last Tuesday (20) at the State High School Professor Francisco da Silva Nunes, in the Marambaia neighborhood of Belém. The school community participated in the 1st Interdisciplinary Environmental Culmination (Cainter), which brought together students, teachers, and administrators in a space for exchanging knowledge on environmental issues, emphasizing sustainability, the development of planetary environmental awareness for a fairer, more democratic, supportive, and sustainable world.

With the theme "Dialogues with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - 2030 Agenda and COP 30 in the Brazilian Amazon", the initiative seeks to promote debate on environmental issues from a global, national, and especially local perspective, focusing on the challenges faced by the Amazon. As explained by the Environmental Education teacher and project coordinator, Érika Farias.

"This is the first interdisciplinary environmental conference at our school, which will eventually become a pedagogical intervention project. This event is a milestone for our school as we work on environmental issues in an integrated manner, with different areas of knowledge. We have teachers involved in presenting the work, both from the Environmental Education, Sustainability, and Climate component, as well as from Geography, Physics, and English," said the educator who also teaches Geography.

According to the teacher, the moment was crucial for disseminating environmental knowledge in various areas. "The students took this moment of the conference to present their work that has been carried out since the first semester. So we had various themes related to environmental issues, from COP 30 to the effects of climate nuances, health - because we also have students from the technological education, meaning we included students from nursing, nutrition, geography, and regular high school, everyone integrated discussing environmental issues with different themes, including environmental racism," stated Érika Farias.

Various interactive activities marked the day, such as lectures addressing topics like sustainability, environmental racism, and the importance of awareness about the impacts of environmental neglect; workshops on solid waste and plastic recycling, conducted by specialists; the 1st chess championship, which brought a playful activity to the event, encouraging logical reasoning and reflection on complex themes in a more accessible way. In addition to the exhibition of research conducted by students on environmental racism, which opened an important space for discussion about inequalities in access to a healthy environment.

Involved in organizing the event and in the research, student Tayná Melo, from the 2nd year of high school, evaluates the experience as a learning opportunity. "The project has been very interesting, we proposed to do this and we dedicated ourselves a lot, we made and remade the slides several times, the banners too because we wanted to deliver a good, excellent work. I found the project very cool and interesting because the school brings this visibility, this protagonism for the students, to show that here we can have this partnership between the school and the coordination, because we had great support from the school in terms of support," she commented.

For high school student Talita Vitória, who was also at the forefront of organizing the event, the 1st Cainter brought learning and experience. "Participating in this project was really cool because we gained experience, I have learned new things about the environment, environmental awareness... I think that Environmental Education classes are something very interesting for schools," she shared.

Environmental Education - The State Department of Education (Seduc) has been offering the Environmental Education component in all stages of education, as mandatory, in state schools since the first semester of 2024. This component can be adopted by municipalities, based on the Environmental Education, Sustainability, and Climate Policy.

Seduc emphasizes that the environmental content makes Pará a pioneer in ensuring a mandatory curricular component of sustainability, encouraging the participation and engagement of students in discussions on fundamental agendas for Pará, whose capital, Belém, will host the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 30) in November 2025.
