Government of Pará delivers overpass between Mário Covas and Avenida Três Corações, in Ananindeua
Structure is yet another legacy of urban mobility from COP 30 for the Metropolitan Region of Belém

The Government of Pará delivered, this Saturday (17), the overpass located at the intersection of Mário Covas and Três Corações avenues, in Ananindeua. The work is part of the structural investment package aimed at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 30), which will be held in Belém, and represents yet another legacy of urban mobility for the entire Metropolitan Region.
With a length of 350 meters, the new overpass directly connects Três Corações avenue to Mário Covas avenue, eliminating the need to stop at traffic lights and providing greater fluidity to traffic. The structure will directly benefit more than 500,000 people who live and circulate through the neighborhoods of Cidade Nova, 40 Horas, Paar, and surrounding areas.

The governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, spoke about the importance of the work during its delivery. "This is another project to facilitate and improve urban mobility in the Metropolitan region. This is the 4th overpass delivered by the State in two years. Projects that reduce the intense flow of traffic, especially during rush hours. Mário Covas avenue interconnects several neighborhoods and enters the most densely populated area of Ananindeua; in addition to connecting Augusto Montenegro with BR-316. Thus, we reduce traffic lights and interventions that end up holding back vehicle flow. Today, we completed this stage, delivering it ahead of schedule," the governor praised.

The governor also announced that, in July of this year, another overpass will be delivered. "We will be delivering the overpass at Mário Covas with Avenida Independência. With this, we will close the number of 5 delivered overpasses, 4 of them just in Ananindeua," added Helder Barbalho.
Very emotional, the State's vice-governor, Hana Ghassan, praised the work of the State, with the Ministry of Cities, and reinforced the work done in Ananindeua and the metropolitan region.

“Ananindeua has received a very attentive look from the State Government. This delivery is part of a large plan that prioritizes urban mobility and the quality of life of our population. In two years, there are five overpasses just in the Metropolitan Region, the result of a management that listens, plans, and executes. What we are doing here today is responding to the request of those who want to spend less time in traffic and more time with family. The works do not stop because Pará does not stop,” emphasized Hana.

More quality of life for the population
For Edilene Cruza, a resident of the Coqueiro neighborhood, the delivery of the work is already transforming the community's routine. Every day, she takes her 5-year-old daughter to school using public transport.

“Before it was a hassle for us. Going to Cidade Nova by bus took a long time, and now it will be easier with this new overpass. I liked it, I loved what they are doing here for us, for the entire population of Coqueiro,” she declared.
The new structure has reorganized both vehicle flow and pedestrian circulation on the sidewalks. For workers in the region, the impact is also positive, as highlighted by the self-employed Gizele Silva, who has been working in the Coqueiro neighborhood for 13 years.

“It was complicated even for those who have worked here for a long time. Now they are organizing it properly. It got much better for us, it is even attracting more customers,” she celebrated.
More road safety
Another important advancement provided by the work is the increase in traffic safety. Resident Lizete Silva reported that her son was involved in an accident before the work was completed.
“Here it was a total jam, with many accidents. My son even had an accident there. I thank our governor very much for doing this great work. This road is very important,” she stated.
How the new overpass will work
With the new road configuration:
The flow of Mário Covas avenue remains under the overpass;
Vehicles traveling on Três Corações avenue, in the direction of Cidade Nova – Mário Covas, will be able to use the overpass to access BR-316 directly;
Those on Mário Covas who want to head towards BR-316 or Augusto Montenegro avenue can use the roundabout under the overpass to make a U-turn.
Structural works of COP 30
This is the third overpass delivered within the urban mobility package prepared for COP 30. The other two were built on the BR-316 highway: one at the intersection with Avenida Independência and another at the access to PA-483 (Alça Viária), in Marituba. In addition to them, the overpass on Ananin avenue, also on BR-316, was delivered in 2023, benefiting thousands of users of the road and residents of Ananindeua.
In total, the Government of Pará is executing more than 30 structural works in Belém and the Metropolitan Region, focusing on mobility, sanitation, and urban development. The investments total R$ 4.5 billion in resources from the State Treasury, Itaipu Binacional, National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), and Caixa Econômica Federal.
These initiatives aim to prepare the capital and its neighboring areas to host COP 30, while leaving a lasting legacy of infrastructure and quality of life for around 2 million inhabitants.
Governor Helder Barbalho took the opportunity to announce the progress of other mobility works.
"The works on the bridge connecting the 40h neighborhood with the region of Avenida Augusto Montenegro are at an advanced stage. It should be delivered in the first half of 2026, allowing those leaving Avenida Independência to use the 40H road to reach the Maguari Complex, on the other side of the river, reaching Seduc and integrating Icoaraci and Tapanã with the municipality of Ananindeua," he concluded.
