The public health system in Pará continues to advance with technology, care, and humanization. At Policlínica Carajás Miguel Chamon in Marabá, the computed tomography service has assisted in the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases, contributing to more accurate medical decisions and reducing patient wait times.

Yuri Castro, 23 years old, a resident of Abel Figueiredo in the Carajás region, was referred for a CT scan at the Policlínica after suffering a serious fall. "I hit my head hard and was treated in my city, but the doctor requested a CT scan to make sure everything was alright. Here, I was well attended, the exam was quick, and it gave me confidence," said the young man.

Since the opening of the Policlínica in April, more than 380 CT scans have already been performed at the Government of Pará unit. The modern equipment allows for high-definition scans of the skull, chest, abdomen, and limbs, providing detailed images that offer a broad and precise view of the patients' clinical conditions.

Another beneficiary of the service was Rose Silva, 47 years old, a resident of Marabá. She was referred to undergo an abdominal CT scan at the institution. "The examination space is very comfortable, the equipment is brand new, and everything was quick. This exam will help to discover the cause of an abdominal pain that I feel sometimes," she said.

Cutting-edge technology

Policlínica Carajás, managed by the Institute of Social and Environmental Health of the Amazon (ISSAA) and the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), has a state-of-the-art CT scanner capable of producing thin slices and high-resolution three-dimensional images, resulting in precise and rapid diagnoses without the need for repeat exams.

"The equipment has high performance and offers extremely detailed images, essential for safe medical decisions, both in emergency situations and in scheduled cases. Its technology also reduces radiation exposure, increasing patient safety," explained Glícia Kalena, the radiology coordinator of the unit.

According to her, CT scans are essential in diagnosing traumas, abdominal pains, infections, pulmonary, neurological, and cardiovascular diseases, among other conditions. "With this tool, we can identify internal changes with greater clarity, speeding up treatment and improving patients' quality of life," Glícia explained.

In addition to high image quality, the equipment also stands out for the speed of performing exams. "The CT scanner is fast and efficient. In just a few minutes, we can complete the exam and release the patient, which greatly optimizes the care flow and reduces waiting time," highlighted Glícia Kalena.

In the diagnostic area, the Policlínica offers a wide variety of exams, totaling more than 25 different types. Among them, laboratory and imaging tests stand out, such as computed tomography, ultrasound (with and without Doppler), X-ray, electrocardiogram, and magnetic resonance imaging. The diversity and quality of the services offered reinforce the unit's commitment to agile, precise, and humanized care.

Regulation – The services at the Policlínica are regulated by the State Regulation Center, under the responsibility of the State Department of Public Health (Sespa). To access the services, citizens must seek a Basic Health Unit in their municipality. After evaluation, the health professional will provide the necessary referral. Then, the patient must present the referral document and their personal data to the Municipal Health Department, which will register and schedule them in the State Regulation System.

Coverage: The unit is equipped to serve the population of municipalities in the region, such as Bom Jesus do Tocantins, Brejo Grande do Araguaia, Canaã dos Carajás, Curionópolis, Eldorado do Carajás, Marabá, Palestina do Pará, Parauapebas, Piçarra, São Domingos do Araguaia, São Geraldo do Araguaia, and São João do Araguaia.
