Seel holds first Regional Phase of Joapa in Oeiras do Pará
Event brings together 520 athletes from seven municipalities in the Marajó archipelago

The Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat of Sports and Leisure (Seel), begins this Wednesday (14) the first regional phase of the XIV edition of the Open Games of Pará (Joapa), based in the municipality of Oeiras do Pará. The Marajó I regional stage runs until May 18 and brings together 520 athletes from seven municipalities in the region: Bagre, Breves, Curralinho, Melgaço, Oeiras do Pará, Ponta de Pedras, and São Sebastião da Boa Vista.
The competitors participate in basketball, futsal, beach soccer, volleyball, handball, and table tennis. Joapa is the largest amateur sports competition in the state, encompassing all 144 municipalities in Pará across 10 regional stages, focusing on strengthening sports and promoting social inclusion through sports practice.

“Joapa is much more than a competition. It promotes integration between municipalities, boosts local commerce, and reinforces sports practice as a tool for social transformation. We are very happy with the participation of the delegations in this new edition,” highlighted the Secretary of Sports and Leisure, Cássio Andrade.
In 2024, the XIII edition of Joapa mobilized over 5,300 athletes in the regional phases held in Portel, Soure, Alenquer, Cametá, Tucuruí, Salinópolis, São Miguel do Guamá, and Castanhal. The state phase, held in Belém, featured representatives from 35 municipalities. The municipality of Abaetetuba was the overall champion of the competition.
In addition to the sports competitions, the event also promotes the Efficiency Trophy, awarded to the municipality with the best combined performance in the regional and state stages. “It is a recognition of the effort and dedication of the athletes and teams, and an incentive for everyone to give their best throughout the competition,” added the secretary.
Technical Congress - The official opening of activities takes place this Thursday (15) at 4 PM, with the Technical Congress. The meeting will be conducted by the technical coordination of Seel with the presence of the heads of delegation from the participating municipalities and the refereeing teams.
