The Government of Pará has intensified the decentralization of health services focusing on the integration regions of the Caeté River, Baixo Amazonas, and Tapajós. The strategy includes the construction and expansion of hospital units, training of qualified teams, and increasing the availability of outpatient and surgical care of low, medium, and high complexity.

Among the main investments are the Caetés Hospital Complex (CHC), the Regional Hospital of Oriximiná Menino Jesus, and the Regional Hospital of Tapajós (HRT). These units play a fundamental role in the regionalization of public health, facilitating access to specialized care for the rural population.

"The Government of Pará has acted firmly to strengthen public health in the municipalities, bringing specialized care closer to the people. The excellent operation of these units has already generated positive impacts on the lives of the population. Our commitment is to ensure that, in any region, everyone has access to dignified care, with adequate structure and humanized attention," says Ivete Vaz, Secretary of State for Public Health (Sespa).

Caetés Hospital Complex: a reference in northeastern Pará

Located in Capanema, the CHC consists of three units: the Regional Hospital, the Polyclinic, and the Autism Spectrum Disorder Care Center (Natea). All services are offered by the SUS. In the first quarter of 2025, the complex performed nearly 176,000 consultations, with a satisfaction rate of 98.68% among users.

“The CHC is a reference for the 16 municipalities in the Caetés region. We are an open door for low and medium complexity orthopedics, polytrauma, and cases of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. In addition, our polyclinic offers more than 35 medical specialties,” details Talita Serra, coordinator of quality and patient safety.

User Ana Luisa de Souza, 21, praised the care during a gynecological consultation. "I was very well attended. Everyone was respectful, attentive, and polite. I can only thank," she stated.

Regional Hospital of Oriximiná strengthens care in the Northern Corridor

Delivered in October 2024, the Regional Hospital of Oriximiná Menino Jesus is already consolidating as a reference in medium and high complexity in Baixo Amazonas. The unit has 26 inpatient and ICU beds, in addition to 16 reception beds. Its structure includes a surgical block, outpatient clinic, imaging diagnosis rooms, laboratory, and medicinal gas plant.

From January to March 2025, the hospital performed more than 1,300 consultations, 184 surgeries, and about 5,000 exams. The unit serves patients referred by Sespa in seven medical specialties: anesthesiology, cardiology, general surgery, gynecology, orthopedics, traumatology, and intensive medicine.

“The hospital serves the municipalities of the Northern Corridor, such as Alenquer, Almeirim, Curuá, Faro, Juruti, Monte Alegre, Óbidos, Oriximiná, Prainha, and Terra Santa,” informs the technical director, Cláudio Victor.

Regional Hospital of Tapajós is a reference in southwestern Pará

Located in Itaituba, the Regional Hospital of Tapajós was delivered in 2020 and is considered one of the most complete in the region. The unit has 153 beds and offers care in 25 specialties, focusing on medium and high complexity maternal-infantile surgery, high-risk obstetrics, polytrauma, and nephrology with renal replacement therapy.

The population of the municipalities of Aveiro, Itaituba, Jacareacanga, Novo Progresso, Rurópolis, and Trairão is served by the hospital.

"It was very gratifying to get my son's anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery at HRT. If it were private, we wouldn't be able to pay. Through SUS, we got it for free. We are very happy with this opportunity," reported Keila Gino, a companion of a patient treated at the unit.
