The Government of Pará played a leading role at the 2nd Brazil Water Forum, held from May 5 to 9 in João Pessoa, Paraíba. Representatives from the State Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainability (Semas) participated in the event, which brought together public managers, specialists, and civil society representatives to discuss strategies for the preservation and sustainable use of water resources in the country. Pará is part of the National Water Resources Council (CNRH) and presented actions that consolidate its leadership position on the subject.

During the forum, the state shared successful experiences in implementing the State Water Resources Plan, highlighting initiatives for monitoring and analyzing water quality. These actions reflect the government's commitment to responsible environmental management and the appreciation of the largest watershed on the planet, where Pará is located.

One of the highlights of Pará's participation was the panel "Strengthening Representations in Water Management," which featured Verônica Bittencourt, coordinator of Water Resources Planning at Semas. She presented the work of the Technical Group Blue Agenda (GTAA), coordinated among the Amazon states, as an example of regional cooperation and institutional strengthening.

“An example of strengthening water management is the creation of our technical group, GTAA, which we built, and through the union of the managing bodies of all the Amazon states, we hold two annual meetings to discuss our advances, projects, and implementation of work in the region. This demonstrates the strengthening of our actions throughout this process,” she emphasized.

Verônica also emphasized the importance of active representations connected to water issues within the National Council. “We highlight the importance not only of formal participation in the collegiate but of having members with real involvement. This strengthens our presence, as has been the case with the Amazon states in these discussions.”

The director of Water Resources at Semas, Luciene Chaves, also joined the Pará delegation at the event, reinforcing the technical alignment of the Secretariat's actions with national debates on the subject.

About the Forum - Promoted by the Brazil Network of Watershed Organizations (Rebob), the Brazil Water Forum reaches its second edition with the aim of promoting a broad dialogue about water in the country. The meeting brought together representatives from the public power at all three levels, private initiative, NGOs, academia, and civil society, focusing on topics such as climate change, rational use of resources, reuse, regulation, and financing of works and services.

In this edition, the event also addressed cross-cutting themes such as gender, environmental education, and the engagement of children and youth in the water cause. At the end of the discussions, participants advocated for the expansion of training for technical teams in the states, the appreciation of water resources councils, and strategies to improve communication with society and municipalities about public policies related to water.
