From May 14 to 16 (Wednesday and Thursday), the I Forum on Film Research will take place at Casa das Artes in Belém, promoted by the Center for Cinematographic Studies (CEC), with the support of the State government through the Cultural Foundation of Pará (FCP). Those interested in participating must fill out an electronic form by May 13.

The first edition of the Forum features a program full of research and open debates, aiming to connect various fields to the seventh art. The event will take place from 6 PM to 9 PM, with free entry and certificates of participation issued.

The event values cinema as art and an object of research on themes addressed in the State, in order to enhance cinema as art, language, and a tool for social transformation. It will also honor film critics and researchers Pedro Veriano and Luzia Álvares for their extensive work in film research in Pará.

Inspiration - The Forum is coordinated by researcher Marco Antonio Moreira, a professor at the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), and proposes a space to inspire and value new research on cinema in Pará and what has already been produced, as well as to bring the public closer to the theme. Covering classics of Brazilian cinema, productions from Pará, and the work of Líbero Luxardo, the program inspires reflections on cinema, memory, and the Amazon.

“We learn to value cinema as art when we study. Cinema is entertainment, too, but it is not just that. It is an essential art in the 21st century,” emphasizes the coordinator.

Among the highlights are the lecture by Leandro Alves da Silva, who investigates the political reactions to the screening of "Iracema – Uma Transa Amazônica", and Januário Guedes, with an aesthetic and historical reading of the classic "Cabra Marcado para Morrer". In addition to them, Ramiro Quaresma, Beatriz Oliveira, and Luzia Álvares will participate in the debates.

Stimulus - Marco Antonio emphasizes that the Forum is essential to make visible the work that has been done and to stimulate new perspectives on cinema. The proposal is to strengthen film research in Pará, recognizing cinema as an essential artistic language for critical reflection, academic investigation, and social transformation.

The realization of the Forum is supported by the Government of Pará, through the Cultural Foundation (FCP), and partnerships with the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), via the Bachelor’s degree in Cinema and Audiovisual, the Graduate Program in Arts (PPGArtes), and the Academic Center of the Cinema and Audiovisual Course, Banzeiro Comunicação, and the Culture Communication Network.

Service: I Forum on Film Research. Period of realization: May 14 to 16, from 6 PM to 9 PM, at Casa das Artes - Rua Dom Alberto Gaudêncio Ramos, nº 236, next to the Basilica Sanctuary of Nazaré. Registrations via the link published on CEC's channels - https://forms.gle/gy6cmF5riBFn9HXW8
