The Institute of Forest Development and Biodiversity of Pará (Ideflor-Bio) carried out an environmental education action aimed at beneficiaries of the Association of Parents and Friends of the Exceptional (Apae) in São Geraldo do Araguaia, a municipality in southeastern Pará. The initiative, promoted by the Administrative Region Management of Araguaia (GRA), in partnership with the Carajás Regional Office, highlighted the importance of social inclusion in environmental public policies and reinforced the role of environmental education as a tool for citizenship.

During the activity, participants were engaged in playful and educational dynamics on topics such as nature preservation, appreciation of local fauna and flora, and environmental responsibility. All content was adapted by the technical team of Ideflor-Bio to ensure accessibility and understanding, respecting the specificities of the audience served by Apae.

Among the most significant moments were practical workshops on planting native seedlings and visits to conservation areas, providing a concrete experience of contact with nature. The encouragement of connection with the environment, through seedling planting, seed handling, and contact with nature, aimed to promote environmental awareness among participants.

The agronomist and environmental management technician at Ideflor-Bio, Emmanuel Carrolo, developed the activity and emphasized that “children are fundamental for the future of the planet! Involving them in environmental education helps to develop sustainable habits from an early age and a love for nature.”

Participants also received educational materials, produced with simplified language and visual resources, facilitating content assimilation.

Visitors learned about the diversity of the region's fauna and flora

In addition, they visited the Photographic Memorial of Serra das Andorinhas. The space aims to promote the conservation and dissemination of the region's natural wealth. With a vast collection of images, the place highlights the diversity of local fauna and flora, as well as tourist attractions such as waterfalls, caves, and viewpoints. The photos also capture the communities living near the Serra dos Martírios/Andorinhas State Park and the Araguaia Environmental Protection Area (APA), providing a comprehensive view of the natural and cultural beauties of the region.

Commitment - The activity promoted inclusion and protagonism for people with disabilities (PcD) in environmental education actions, creating spaces for listening and active participation. In addition to the knowledge gained, the meeting was marked by moments of integration and appreciation of diversity.

The action reaffirms Ideflor-Bio's commitment to broader environmental education that reaches all segments of society. Initiatives like this reinforce that environmental preservation is a collective responsibility, and that everyone has a role to play in this process.

For the manager of the Araguaia Administrative Region of Ideflor-Bio, Laís Mercedes, true environmental education "is one that includes, respects, and values each person in their uniqueness. Bringing this knowledge to the beneficiaries of Apae is a way to ensure that everyone actively participates in building a more sustainable and just future for all."
