More than R$6 million for innovative research aimed at the health sector will be invested in Pará. The investments come from the newest notice launched by the Fundação Amazônia de Amparo a Estudos e Pesquisas (Fapespa) on Thursday afternoon (08) at the Santa Casa do Pará, the Research Program for SUS, Shared Management in Health (PPSUS).

Carried out in partnership with the State Department of Public Health of Pará (Sespa), the Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Health (Decit/MS), and CNPq, the program is aimed at PhD researchers with effective ties to non-profit scientific or higher education institutions, in order to submit proposals that directly address the needs of the Unified Health System (SUS) in Pará.

This edition of the program has the following priority axes: Health Care with Equity and Completeness in the Context of the State of Pará, Management of Work and Education in Health, Technologies and Economics in Health, Risk Surveillance and Health Issues for Individuals and Collectives with an emphasis on disease control, health issues, and deaths, Gender, Race, and Ethnicity Equity in SUS, and Amazonian Specificities.

Research - The launch event of the notice included representatives from Fapespa, Sespa, the Ministry of Health, CNPq, and many researchers from various institutions to discuss actions and expectations of the program.

"This initiative by Fapespa in partnership with CNPq, the Ministry of Health, and Sespa aims to promote and encourage the search for solutions to health-related problems in Pará. In addition to bringing the health system closer to the science, technology, and innovation of our state," highlighted the coordinator of Science and Technology of the Scientific Directorate of Fapespa, Carina Melo, who presented the notice during the launch.

Development - Notice No. 006/2025 will invest R$ 6 million in scientific and technological research projects that propose solutions to the main challenges of public health in the state of Pará. The goal is to develop products, processes, or innovative solutions with the potential for implementation in primary, specialized, or hospital care of SUS.

The selection of projects will be based on technical criteria, social relevance, and feasibility of applying the results in the public health network.

During the event, the Executive Secretary of Sespa and coordinator of Health Education, Taise Santos, emphasized that "This is a very important moment, especially because it was a process built collectively and aims to meet the needs of users, the needs of the territory, what we need to work on, and we need to advance in this process to strengthen health workers."

Over seven editions, PPSUS has already trained about 1,700 professionals from the 27 Brazilian states participating in the initiative. Pará has already held four editions of the program, with a financial contribution of almost 50%. The coordinator of health research funding at the Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Health, Denise Lins, highlighted and celebrated this progress: “It is a joy to be part of this launch, alongside partner institutions and researchers. PPSUS has this characteristic of looking at health problems, at the particularities of the state, making this bridge between academia, management, and services, promoting new ideas to improve the health of the population based on scientific evidence. Therefore, I congratulate the state of Pará for this achievement.”

Present at the launch, the coordinator of the postgraduate program in management and health of the Amazon, from the Fundação Santa Casa, Valéria Santos, said she was looking forward to the launch and proposals. “As a postgraduate program, we intend to submit projects to boost science, such as proposals aimed at the health of indigenous and quilombola populations, and strengthening health technologies, seeking to bring significant benefits to the population, especially of SUS. So, the goal is to develop products for society aimed at solving problems, bringing science and research closer to the situations encountered in the daily life of our SUS, of health as a whole.”

Public health researcher Eliana Silva emphasized the importance of the notice and expressed interest in participating in the program:

“This notice from Fapespa is undoubtedly very important for our state, as it will help develop cutting-edge research in our state. I myself intend to submit a research project that will study the causal agents involved in the process of spontaneous abortion, treated here at the Hospital Fundação Santa Casa de Misericórdia do Pará,” said the researcher.

The president of Fapespa, Marcel Botelho, evaluates that “this notice should be followed as a model for the development of science and technology in Brazil and abroad. “We ensure that this national program meets the research lines according to the needs of each Brazilian state. There are R$ 6 million for research for SUS, in a partnership between Fapespa, Sespa, the Ministry of Health, and CNPQ,” says the president.
