Two veterinarians from the Forensic Police of Pará conducted on Thursday (8) the necropsy examination on the bodies of the animals brought from the municipality of Igarapé-Miri, after alleged poisoning. The examination was carried out in partnership with the pathology laboratory of the Federal University of Pará, in Castanhal.

"We have a very good partnership with the Veterinary Medicine college in Castanhal and we have qualified veterinary experts, who develop a very efficient service in animal examinations, which also integrate with DEMAPA. Every operation that DEMAPA initiates against animal abuse they participate in. And we have a project for this year: to set up the veterinary medicine coordination within the Forensic Police, so they can specifically address this demand," explains the criminal expert and general director of the Forensic Police, Celso Mascarenhas.

Examination - On April 30 and May 1, the criminal expert and veterinarian, Felipe de Sá, was in Igarapé-Miri to collect the bodies of the allegedly poisoned animals for examination, as well as to conduct an examination at the crime scene.

"In this case, clinically in life, the animals showed symptoms of poisoning, which already raised suspicion. A crime scene investigation was conducted in Igarapé-Miri, where the hypothesis of environmental contamination was ruled out, increasingly suggesting possible death by ingestion of pesticides, the 'chumbinho'. So today, the necropsy was performed, the macroscopic signs were similar or identical in all examined animals, the stomachs of all were collected along with food contents, in addition to some granules that were found, compatible with the appearance of the pesticide that will be researched," he clarifies.

According to the expert, all material collected today, during the examination conducted with the criminal expert and veterinarian, Gabrielle Cardoso, was sent to the forensic toxicology laboratory of PCEPA for analysis and the results will indicate whether there was poisoning or not.

"It is worth noting that initially the examination was requested for 6 animals. But when thawing occurred, it was found that there were 5 adults, 1 male and 4 females, in addition to two puppies already in an advanced state of decomposition. Two of these females were pregnant, totaling 17 fetuses that unfortunately were affected and died during this process," laments the expert.

Reports - Reports of crimes against animals can be made anonymously through the Disque Denúncia at number 181, at any Civil Police station or at DEMAPA located at km1 of Rod. Augusto Montenegro.
