The State Secretariat of Culture (Secult) opened to the public, at the Cultural Space Casa das Onze Janelas, in Belém (PA), the exhibition “Solos: Interpenetrable Territories,” which will be on display until September 20, 2025. Linked to the State System of Museums and Memorials, the space hosts the exhibition that proposes a critical reflection on Amazonian territories through the union of art and natural sciences.

With a collective curatorship by the team of museum educators, the exhibition brings together clay and iron sculptures, photographs, videos, paintings, installations, and objects that engage with the soil in its layers — physical and symbolic. “Since the successful exhibition Amazon Present in 2023, the museum has been dedicated to fostering discussions about the environment, seeking to bring the community closer to these themes,” says Albacelhe Braga, director of the space.

Divided into three sections, the exhibition begins with “Natural Bodies,” which discusses human displacements in the Amazon. “We want to expand the notion of soil in all its layers and dimensions,” says museum educator Milena Claudino.

The second section, “Interpenetrable Territories,” presents works that cross physical and symbolic borders. The photograph “Trans-Amazonian Highway” by Paula Sampaio is one of the highlights, along with images of cities like Tucuruí, Marabá, and Itaituba captured by Miguel Chikaoka.

The journey concludes with the section “Other Codes,” which brings together artworks made with organic and mineral elements, in dialogue with rocks from the collection of the Gem Museum of the State of Pará. “This intersection generates new ways of understanding the relationships between art and territory,” explains Claudino.

The exhibition is free and includes accessibility resources such as braille, digital sign language, audio description, and tactile replicas.
